I had this same issue, I took it to toyota and complained. Didnt get much out of it.

But, as time went on, the paint seemed to get harder and doesnt chip as easy.

If your worried about it, check some local body shops and ask if they can bake your truck for a bit. This will harden the paint faster.

Good perspective. Thanks man. Breathing lol Told installer not to even worry about ppf now and just ceramic coat the truck. Take that money and invest it somewhere else. Vehicles are never a ROI.

If you need a quick holdover due to salty roads use some clear nailpolish for the time being or some super glue to carefully fill in the chip. That’s my go-to anyway (even though some professional paint gurus are probably cringing right now). It has always served me well.

I’m in AZ right now so I’m gonna leave till wed. Found a Toyota dealer in Phoenix that has cement touch up paint and will snag it before I drop the truck off to my detail guys / ceramic coat installer. Since he’s already doing paint correction I’m sure it’ll look better than me touching it up.

I don’t blame you man. If I was gonna pay to have paint correction and ceramic done, I wouldn’t fuck around if I didn’t absolutely have to.

Thanks. I think it’ll be alright for 5 days in the desert heat. I’m gonna skip the PPF at this point and honestly was on the fence with it / cost. Just gonna have him paint correct and ceramic coat. Thanks for the advice though if I’m in a similar situation when I’m back home in IL next year.

The best is finding muddy cat prints across your hood. I hate cats.

It always turns out great. He did my 17 MGM and was gorgeous. I was gonna splurge on ppf but was already on the fence just cost wise and can’t wrap it to protect every chip. Just stings a bit lol. Will post for ya.

This may sound crazy but get a roll of Helicopter tape off Amazon. (They make it up to 3” wide) and use it on the front edge of the hood and other hard-wear areas. It doesn’t yellow from the sun and is self-healing unless it takes a sharp whack. I use it on any mountain bike I have that is carbon fiber. My trail bike is almost completely covered by it and you can’t even tell. Alloy I don’t sweat as much as the carbon. It’s designed for the edges of helicopter blades. Super tough stuff and relatively inexpensive.

So true re water based paints. We're having problems with the paint on our Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio. The paint seems SO thin. The chips are not deep at all.

This is one of three chips. Less than 2000 miles on the vehicle.

No matter. They got in. No matter who ever wins, we all have to face the consequences and shoulder the responsibility. It's what makes us US.

It's not just you and its not just TOYOTA. I had more dings in the first three months on my new pear white T4R LTD and on my '16 Tacoma than I had on my old 13yr old 4R and my other trucks.

But you should see the other guys, they were horrible long before and are even worst now lol!

Moving to the rust belt the paint on your hood should be the least of your worries. Especially on a Tacoma lol

Water based car/truck paints have been used for decades it is nothing new it also is compatible with clear coats. The blame rides with road crews and winter not the paint.
