Solved my little issue with the control cable for the winch. Through @usoffroad I found an extension cable to remote mount the socket to plug the controller cable into.

So I took a 3" piece of 2" aluminum angle and made a bracket to mount it with. Quick simple project.

Mounted the bracket on the core support beside the radiator on the passenger side. I couldn't find a good spot on the driver's side. I plugged in the cable and it work perfectly.

So one of my big truck projects for the winter is done. 1 is in progress and the other is just a matter of time.

That's coo! Was it a pain to get to the plug on the winch other wise?

For me, yes, I had to remove the grill to reach down and plug it in. We were going to remote the solenoid but there's not much room in the engine bay. I could have freed up some sace by doing the underhood snorkel but I haven't figured out which way I want to go with that yet. This put the conection in a protected yet easy to access spot.

I could have gone wireless I guess but I just trust the mechanical connection more. Besides, I know I would never remember to check the batteries and when I needed it they'd be dead.

I wouldn't want to solely rely on wireless I would have to have a wired connection available as well. I would do the same about the batteries and my luck the spares would be dead as well.

    A thing or two...
The wireless remotes for the Smittybilt winches can be run wired. Don't know about Warn and other brands.

I think with Engo you can have wireless but in case of emergency you can plug the regular one in. I may be wrong but like I said I know I'd never remember to check the batteries.

Ugh, this thread is boring! I’m sitting here thinking about more stuff I could do to the truck that I really shouldn’t be thinking about. I don’t like winter

Rainy day maintenance! Well I figured I may as well start knocking some of these things out and be ready for spring. Not optimal weather for this but I cleaned up a little rust on the sliders and recoated them. Look way better I didn't know how much they had faded over the last couple years.

    Come on warm weather!

I'm sick of this weather myself. Goes from rainy and gloomy to cold and snowy up here, the ground is so soggy it's such a mess. I feel like once daylights savings time kicks in we might be on the positive side of things :fingerscrossed:

I certainly hope so. We have had so much rain over the last year the ground is completely saturated. litterally nowhere for it to go it just sits in puddles and the ground is so spongy a good wind brings trees down. I am ready for shorts and t-shirt weather again

More maintenance crap. I had just gotten done telling somebody I'm trying not to spend any money and I got in the truck and the battery was gone. It was the original factory battery 4 1/2 years old and 75k miles. I ran down to Autozone and got one of the Duralast Gold's.

I feel your battery issue. Stephanie's Acura battery was dead yesterday. Since we don't drive it much, I'm going to see if I can revive it. We will see if it works.

So I charged the Acura's battery up. It took 2.5 days to charge, and it came up to 13.1v. I've let it sit for 24hrs. with nothing hooked to it, and it dropped to 12.9v. I might just get out of having to buy one for now.

See how it starts the vehicle though. I have charged several bad batteries with dead cells that appeared to charge well but when put under a load didn't hold up
