    Yes, negotiating!

I was a young single guy working construction in the 80's and times were good.

I had the money to buy a brand new vehicle. I still remember the morning I woke up and looked out the window and didn't see my car parked where I left it.....

An old timer I was working with gave very good advice.

As I remember, he told me something along the lines of "when the insurance company calls you, it doesn't matter whatever the settlement amount, immediately raise your tone of voice, tell them you are not happy with the amount, and ask to speak to someone with more authority".

I did exactly as he told me, and I luckily had kept the sticker from the vehicle. I remember getting around $2k plus more than the original offer, much closer to what I paid.

For what it's worth....and luckily never needed that advice again.

    Good luck!

There is hardly any lien holders who let anyone buy the vehicle back, and he will be upside down in it anyway if its a month old.

I dunno it was kinda both. I mean if he can get it from the insurance company. And has enough coin saved up anything is possible. 2jz +r154 swap total might be around 7k on the diy route.

I’d be cautious burning used vehicles. I Have yet to have any vehicle I have owned that was in an accident show up on a Carfax. About the only good a CarFax will do is show you it once had an R title. Even then depending on the state totaled or purchased in it won’t show.

Depends on how you fix it. BFH and a torch and used parts is one thing.
Fixing it correctly is a whole different set of rules.

what was the outcome on your truck? my 2019 just got rear ended today and waiting on insurance. rear frame is bent, bed is cracked ,bumper is toast. body shop guy mentioned about a frame swap but not sure how i feel about that since it will follow the trucks carfax and kill my resale value. other guys insurance took fault and mine already put them at fault

Your damage would be considered pretty minor. If it were me I wouldn’t even have them replace the bed, just collect the money for the repairs, and put it on the loan or use it for something more useful.

Don't know about Texas, but here in WA I'd be sure I was getting my reduced resale value back in a check from their insurance company for my trucks diminished value. On top of any repairs.

If your frame is bent bad enough they will total it. A frame swap by itself is very expensive in labor. It's about $8500 if I remember correctly. That's going to put it close to 25% of the trucks value by itself, without any other repairs.
