Same thing here Construction been laid off since November 2009,Gov. checks run out Sept.11 for me looking at Part time Temp. Post Office with no chance of going Full Time,Customer Service Rep. new Honda Dealer,Supermarket worker,I dont think Construction will be back in a big way for 5-10 years its everyman for himself right now,I might call it quits for my Construction career after this moneys good when you work but its unreliable when the economy takes a dive, all these stories ring a bell to me I can relate to all of them.

Investments took a huge dump, only debt I have is my truck and CC( that'll be paid off in the fall) but, I am still making ends meet, Thanks in a large part to the post 911 gi bill. I'm hoping to find a job with State or USAID or FEMA after school, but am exploring other options also.

I work as a risk manager for an entertainment/hospitality industry insurance carrier out of DC, General Liability and Liquor liability. It been steady, were once you could insure the cream of the crop nightclubs, and high end concerts/festivals, now we have to fill in the gaps with clubs that look like the grass that the dog shit on.

Also working in IT, have to say things were hairy a while back but you can't shake virtualization at a time like this. I've only been getting COL increases but it's better than nothing. IT is actually growing, just not at the rate it was before.

Look into Federal Govt. employment with your Military background you should do well there plus the only thing thats growing is the size of our Government:facepalm:Lots of peoples investments mine included have been basically destroyed,Ive had alot of my 401K money and other cash put into Bonds but they are paying shit % not even 1.5% which sucks but at least my principle(money) is safe from being wiped out there, only thing I got thats reliable and doesnt let me down is my Tacoma! Starts and runs like a clock at 133K good investment:D

Our company was slow during the 'recession' - but there was never a time that I didn't get 5 full days a week. Some of the entry level people were getting forced off and getting less than 5 days.

Now? Holy bejesus....we've got OT out the whazooo. I'm not sure what happened but it looks like the work picked up (we make magazines/catalogs). We're borrowing people from different plants (there are about 3 in town) and that's still not covering all the 'demand'. OT OT OT

It's feast or famon here. One week it'll be crazy busy and the next week crazy slow. Lately, it's been pretty steady. I hate the OT and hate working weekends.

My husband and I are financially secure (don't have any kids). We're looking to give a friend of ours (contractor) some work to redo our entire bathroom. We've procrastinated enough. Hopefully we can get this done before winter.

I'm in health care. We've seen a slight dip in patient volume, but nothing to worry about. We're not terribly economically sensitive.

Pay is good, love my job, only debt is the Taco and my student loan, both of which will be paid off in a couple years. Hate to say it, but life is good on the dark side.

Most of the jobs in this country are provided by small businesses. If the government wants to help create jobs, the best thing it can do is not raise taxes on these businesses. As of now the 2001 tax cuts are going to expire at the end of the year, so I don't see a very strong economic recovery in 2011. I hope I'm wrong.

I work in Environmental Consulting. Last year slowed down to a nice 40 hours a week....now we have picked up to regular 60 hour weeks. The only downside of the economic turn was I didn't see a raise last year. I am pretty thankful for my job though. A lot of my friends have had it rough, I am usually sucked into buying them beers on the weekend though.
