1500 mile road trip avg 17.3mpg!

Those numbers are pretty accurate to what I was seeing. At 80 when I could keep it in 6th, it was right at 2000 RPM. Any acceleration the tach jumped to 2500 and the tranny dropped to 5th. I then had to back off the pedal just a touch and it would shift and drop back to 2000. I'm assuming that 500 RPM difference is what ate up the extra fuel.

 

I drove from SEA>PDX>BOISE>SLC>YELLOWSTONE>BOZEMAN>SEA just after Christmas. Averaged somewhere around 18.5 mpg. I think I was averaging around 75 mph. Nothing on the truck, brand new stock everything with factory tonneau DCSB OR. I had 240 pounds of sand in the bed.
I have now installed a Leer canopy and Princu Top and Cab Racs. Took out the sand...have not measured yet.

I haven't yet taken this training course on how to drive the automatic tranny.

 

Also, I need to feel good about my purchase so if you guys would stop talking negatively about these trucks I would appreciate it.

My shitty ecobewst gets better mileage than my taco did while it’s on 35s.

 

I came from a Chrysler 9-Speed, our Transmission is amazing from my view point.

 

Coming from a Subaru Outback 2015 with a 3.6R motor...I actually find the two transmissions weirdly identical in performance, "shiftyness", etc.
Now last night I had to drive my wife's Honda Fit to the store and that was a contrast...

So prepare to beat me up. I took my TRD Off Road to Santa Fe, NM. I filled in Santa Rosa and took a picture of the instrument panel before exiting I 40 at Clines Corners. The truck was totaled in Santa Fe.
I returned a couple of weeks later to clean out the Taco and pick up decorations for the wedding. I had settled with the insurance company for $5,000 less than I paid for the truck. Eight months and 13,700 miles. A beautiful truck. But it ran in fourth gear with the cruise control nearly the entire trip. You can see the RPMs and fuel mileage in the picture. Beautiful day and no wind.
I used my connection with the dealership and was allowed to take a Canyon to Santa Fe. I filled at the same truck stop in Santa Rosa and took a picture of the instrument panel in about the same place. You can see the difference. I bought a new Canyon Denali when I returned to Oklahoma City.
My head still turns when I see a white Taco TRD. I miss the truck but not the erratic transmission.

 

Sorry to hear about your collision. IMO GAP protection is a must on new vehicles for this reason. Where I am it's another $10-$15/month, but you would have got your full price of the truck, back on the claim. Like I said earlier Tacoma is no good on the highway, for me anyways.

 

Towed this trailer 45 miles in florida last month. 60mph cruise control. 18.5mpg gas pump verified.

 

Here is some data from my last 70+ fillups. I have been to Nebraska multiple times and North Carolina multiple times. In the mountains I put it into S4 so it doesn't go searching for gears. My daily commute to work is 65 miles one way. I do carpool so that helps some. But, I drive, alot. Overall I'm very happy with my Tacoma!

 

I drive 30-35K a year. I don't keep track of my mpg because I really don't care but I always do the math in my head when filling up. I averaged a smidge under 20 mpg last year as near as I can tell. I put gas in it so often that I can guess within a gallon or so how many gallons it's going to take to fill it lol.

No. It was the 80 mph that was eating up the fuel.
This is like day one type knowledge.

 

Exactly. It's all basically due to weight, drag, and hills. And driver's habits. Even having the A/C on lowers your mileage.

 

It also seems that most of you with trd off roads get a couple mpg worst than me. I'm wondering if that stupid air dam is worth 2 to 3 mpg.

 

Some have said it helps and then some said it doesn’t. I’m going to take mine off sometime and see what happens.

 

My air dam has been off since day 1. Also have front receiver. Mileage averages between 20 and 21.

 

It's a truck. Did anyone buy their truck because they were promised great gas mileage?
Did the manufacturer not post the mileage on the window sticker?

Did I mention it's a truck? I'd rather read a thread about what people haul in their truck.
After all, did I mention we bought a truck?
