Can you identify the size of this bolt, with thread pitch?

No dealer or parts vendor can tell me the size of this bolt and the shipping on it is 5 days. No dealer has it in stock. I need it to prevent front diff fluid from spewing all over the place.

Can you tell me the size of this bolt and thread pitch? Part# is 90119-A0141.

Toyota Hardware for the Most is not expensive .

 

Is there an auto dismantled anywhere nearby? That looks like a standard diff plug that you could find on different Toyotas.

Fixed- it’s the bolt for the diff breather bracket...

 

Should be a 12mm head. Don't know how long or what the pitch is.

 

Yeah I saw the head size from ECGS- so I'm gonna guess it's an 8mm bolt. Just don't know length now. It's almost impossible to get to without removing other stuff.. so trial and error isn't really that easy.

 

M8 x1.25 I would guess 20 to 25mm

Something is wrong if fluid is pushing out of that that hole .

Or is it pushing out the breather because it is falling off

 

Yeah- because the bracket isn’t secure the breather tube got pulled off

 

Go to HD and buy a bunch of metric bolts of different sizes. Cost you a couple $.

 

If you are ever in this bind- Measure the diameter of the bolt as best you can either directly with a scale or clamp on it with an adjustable wrench and measure the gap in MM between the jaws. Then measure how many thread peaks there are in 1 mm distance along the length of the bolt. That gives your diameter and thread pitch. Use a magnifier if you need to see finer threads. An M12 x P=1.0 will have thread peaks that line up exactly on each mm mark for example. You can estimate other pitches from there.This works for standard bolts in the same way except that you count the number of thread peaks in an inch 13,16, 18,20, 24,32 ect. You can tell a "fine" or "coarse" thread pitch that way if you can't by sight or comparison.

If you have a caliper and a thread pitch gauge all the better. I think even the cheaper HF tap and die kits still come with both thread pitch gauges.

 

For anybody reading that, he means clamp onto the actual threads with the adjustable wrench, not the head where you normally put the wrench!

@Troyken : I suspect that he doesn't actually *have* the bolt that was in there.

 

Yes that is correct, the bolt body not the head, this was meant as a general post on this topic. Many people refer to a bolts size by its head size. That makes it easier if you are only looking for the correct wrench though.
