Squeeky Dakar Leafs

I had the heavy duty leaf pack installed. After 6 months they squeeked so bad it was unbearable and embarrassing. After many emails I had ARB parent company of OEM suggest i pay to have them greased with a special greese. I did and nothing changed. So they replaced them with what was supposed to be an upgraded leaf.
Now after 1 year of driving the squeeks have come back. The leafs come with a 3 year warranty.
I made several attempts to contact ARB via email. I do not seem to get a reply. I dont feel that coating them in an oil spray is a fix. Its a temporary solution.

Thoughts? Well, all of my older Toyota trucks had the squeeks. It gave them character. My 2017 with a single Deaver AAL leaf added to stock has character only after I OR on dusty roads too, but the only issue I’ve had with that is it tends to ruin the mood when you’re in the RTT late at night.

 

When I put in my AAL I pulled the stock pack apart and greased them and the metal shims up with synthetic Red Line, so far, so good.

I’ve read where the grease and other lubricants attracts more dirt, but not sure how there’s any other way to quiet the leafs down.

 

Get proper leafs. Mine squeaked from day 2 of install. A lot Of the squeaking is from the attachement points. As well.

If you lube the springs use a dry lube. Not a wet one it’ll just attract more dirt.

The company should manufacture proper ones for the price.
At this point i wish i had just added a add a leaf to factory leaf

 

They are garbage leafs, can’t support the weighr aqueak wirse then stock.

I did the same thing, and regret jt. Thankfully they are warrantying my springs as I bought them as I was assured they could and the squeaking was handled by their rep.

 

Had mine replaced with an updated set ayear ago. The squeek is back.

 

All leaf spring have squeaked since stage coach days.

There are several good solutions available. Many posted in TW, many to be found via Google.

There is no reason to 'live with it'. But it does take some investigation and effort to improve.

 

Don’t have an issue with mine well not yet. Why don’t you share if you are in the know on how to fix.

 

Never had a squeakky leaf on ford/chevy ever. Every toyota yup.

 

I did WD40 to push out moisture and did white lithium grease. That was a year and a half ago no issues. Light offloading though plenty of water dirt and mud since

 

The springs are metal on metal and unfortunately without some type of lubricant squeaks are inevitable. Silicone paste type greases may last longer than oil based if applied with the leaf pack disassembled. The biggest advantage of a fluid film is being able to apply it without taking anything apart. Since the pack has no seal it will eventually loose its lubricant and need to be touched up.

The bushings are also a source of noise. I used energy suspension grease on mine.

 

I’m not sure what you want here. It’s just metal slats bolted together. Metal on metal rubs, it happens.

I recommend tearing the pack apart and using an axle grease around the center pin and on the last few inches of the leaf ends.

I did this on my Deavers and no issues. You can try using plastic spacers but it’s up to you.

Never use WD-40 or sprays on the leafs.

OME TSB001 has the fix for this. Should have been done on install.

 

Wow I just read the idiotic comments. Some of you would have been better off with a 4runner. Coils have the benefit of no maintenance

I registered online with ARB warranty. I installed my Dakar HDs last summer. Pretty noisy and I have sprayed a lot of liquid wrench on them not knowing that was the wrong thing to do.

Hopefully, I can get the TSB kit from ARB. Other than that these are fantastic Leafs IMO. I have a Snug top topper and often have a lot in the back, the Springs are really plush and have held their lift well.
