Do either of them come with the extended warranty ? what are your priorities? you drove both, which one makes you smile more?
They will both do exactly the same thing, the 2016 you might get a couple more mpg better with it.

    I had a 2016 , traded her for a 2014. Not once have I looked back and said that I wished I had kept the 2016 .

I did the exact same lol. Had the 2016 for one year. The trans shifting in the mountains was absolutely terrible.

2015 seems like the way to go... I really want to keep this truck for a long time and have it be reliable

It is. I helped my dad not buy a 2016+ last year. Ended up getting a '15.

Edit: another strike against the '16 is that it is a 3rd gen without the power sliding rear window. Which is the only thing I'm envious about on the 3rd gens.

If payload is a factor get the 15, I’ve got a 2012 and the payload is 1340lbs, the 3rd gen 4x4 double cab like mine is something in the 1100 lbs. Wife’s Honda Fit has 850 lbs, the 3rd gen is car with an open to the air trunk, even the 4Runner 7 seat model has 1700lb payload.

If you’re going for a choice. 2nd gen is always the right choice. I’ll always tell someone away from a 3rd.... 2015 for sure.

I own a 15 and went through the same thing. On one hand the 16s have a lot more tech. On the other hand the 2nd gens can go like 600,000mi. I went with the 15 because i couldn’t justify (at the time) the $10,000 more for the 16 for a brand new truck. Got my 15 gently used at 22,300mi. If I could do it again I would still pick the 15. You don’t want to be a third gen guy. They all bitch and complain about dumb shit.

That being said, I want to say the 15’s original design was made in the early 2000’s. It really is a pretty basic and rugged little truck. If it had a manual transfer case I’d argue it would be the perfect truck.

I had 2005 and then got 2015, traded it after a year for 2018.
Third gen is reliable, there are few members here that are over 100,000 miles mark with no issues.
2nd gen has outdated interior, horrible milage and looks wise the 2012+ styling is way more ugly than 3rd gen. I liked the pre 2012 style better.

I have a hunch that some time in the future, the value of low mileage 2nd gens will increase at a rate proportional to the decrease in value of the 3rd gens. When enough people get pissed at the 3rd gens, the demand for low mileage 2nd gens will go through the roof.

"Rember when you could buy a DCSB TRD OR 4X4 for $15K?"

"Yeah, and I remember when you could buy a '68 Shelby GT350 convertible for $5K."

How can anyone say the 3rd gens are more or less reliable than the 2nds? The 3rds have been out what 4 years? I could :poking: the 2nd gens, but then I would just be labeled as a 3rd gen cry baby.

Also, keep in mind TSS started in 2018 and not everyone likes it. I’m glad I’m in a 2017, the last year before it.

Actually 3rd Gen V6 is 6800lbs and 2nd Gen V6 is 6500lbs, basically the same
