master cyclinder push rod length

Old thread, I know but just came across it... I have an 04, front brakes dragging and inconsistent pedal... serviced calipers and replaced booster, Same issue, brakes still drag and stick. Will unplug abs module and report back....

 

Did disabling ABS fix your issue?

 

No, setting proper booster rod length resolved it.

 

Hey guys new to this forum and my first post. A lot of great advise so far. Not sure if I missed it somewhere in the thread but how do you adjust the booster rod length? I have been dealing with front brake lock up issues on my sons 06 taco. We did a Wilwood caliper/rotor swap. After had several issues with brake lockup. Decided to replace the MC just to make sure that wasn’t the issue. When I took the old MC off I measured the distance from the surface of the booster to the tip of the pushrod, and from the mounting surface of the MC to the depth of the contact surface within the MC where the push rod mates up. It appeared to be about 2mm too long. Not sure why but the new master cylinder had more clearance by measurement and had about a 2mm gap. I’m assuming that was the issue. Been driving it now for 4 days now and no issues yet, and the new brakes stop the 35’s perfectly. But if anything comes up I’d like to know how to make adjustments.

 

Not sure for the second gen Tacoma you're working on. You're in the first gen section. But in previous page post number 8 has a pdf that might be what you're looking for

 

You'll need to pull the master and the easiest way to measure the pushrod length is a tool like this - it worked for me.

I dumped $600 into the brakes on this truck then traded it after owning less than a year

 

Thanks for the reply. I was able to take the actual measurement, but not sure how to make an adjustment to the push rod if needed. How do you lengthen or shorten it?
