I got home after over an hour drive and realized that the dealer didn't swap the tags like they said there were doing when I was signing paperwork.

So I have the dealership advertisement tag on there .. it's not even a dealer tag. So I am really not legal right now.

I need to get to work in the morning and the dealership doesn't open until after I have to be at work... and I CANNOT be late.

Any ideas on what I should do?

Any law enforcement that can give me an idea on what to do?

Yeah I can't imagine you would get a ticket. Just explain what happened.

Get a piece of paper and some markers. Make a tag.

Go look in the mirror. Be honest with yourself; do you look suspicious? If so, close the curtains and lock the doors then call in sick, call the dealer and ask them to deliver the tags to you.

Haha, so I decided why ask a bunch of random guys on a forum what I should do when it comes to legal matters when I can just ask local law enforcement. So I called the local Krispey Kreme and spoke with an officer. He essentially told me, "I'm not telling you to drive, because right now you are not legal to drive, but if you do drive I suggest you have all your paperwork, especially the paperwork that shows the dealer was supposed to transfer your tags over. Also it is the dealers responsibility to make this right. So call them and make them bring you the tags, if they give you any problems, find a lawyer.".

So long story short, I call my boss and ask him what he wants me to do... If he says drive I'm going to make him pay for any fees I end up getting.

Like previously stated...just drive and leave plenty of time in case you get stopped. You should be good to go even if you do get stopped since you have all of your paperwork.

If I was your boss and you called me about this, I would have second thoughts on why I hired you. This is not something to call your boss about. It is not within a boss's responsibility on solving a get to work personal issue.

In what thought process do you think your boss would be liable for any legal fees?

Take a cab or call somone for a ride, call the dealer in the morning and make it their problem and they can pay for the cab ride since it was their mistake.

Once again my dry humor got lost on the interwebz... My boss is awesome, and in fact I have no intention of asking him to solve my problems for me. To clarify for you, it was just a bit of light hearted fun for my boss to read while he sits around building PowerPoint presentations on the productivity of programmers in relation to their alcohol intake.

As for my thought process, it was a joke. One made partly due to the ridiculous legal system in America where things like law suits over spilt coffee can be a reality.

Anyway... I guess only a few if us find the humor in this. :p. Come on people it's a humorous event it's not life or death.

That is why they invented "smiley's" to show other emotion than being taken for the literal word as written.

Given your first post and the first reply to it, myself and maybe others had doubts about your problem solving abilities.

Thank you for your feedback kind sir. You are both a scholar and a gentleman. My apologies for not clarifying that I was in search of the "experience" of others in this situation, instead of problem solving skills, nor in search of your thoughts in regards to my problem solving abilities.

Furthermore, it was not my intention to make a post to be belittled for something as innocent as this minor oversight. Therefore, I shall withdraw myself from further discussion with you for fear that I might further displease you with my ignorance, humor, and lack of proper internet etiquette.

If you care to continue this discusion the floor is yours. I shall not attempt to get the last word in for I am clearly wrong and shall retire to the animal pen where I belong.

    Pretty much stock
just drive...i mean i'd still stop you, just have your paperwork. even if you did get a dickhead cop that writes you a ticket i HIGHLY doubt it would fly in court (therefore not worth my time writing the ticket).

    good luck

    Honestly Hootbro,

I'm not normally this much of an asshat, but man you got all up on me without knowing me, and I just got a new truck to go camping, fishing, etc with my boys. This is a big deal and I'm pretty excited!

I wouldn't worry too much as long as you have copies of the signed paperwork with you.
