I am glad I got the TSS, so much easier to travel on long distance hwys with adaptive cruise control. I can drive longer and safer now.

    ______

2nd gen has old and tried 4.0 engine that will last over 500K miles guaranteed (if you take care), but in all other departments Toyota made good improvements to move to a 3rd gen tacoma and the engines are starting to reach 100-200K miles marks now, showing they are reliable.
Oh and another thing why 3rd gen MT is better - I don't have the need to punch my dashboard :D:burnrubber:

Yep! People find it to difficult to drive nowadays. Lifting their foot off the gas. Then if they god forbid have to apply the brakes, it's just too much of a hassle for them. But it let's them concentrate on more important things l guess. Like texting....

If you look at the stats, there’s more drivers in accidents now than past decades. I’m sure texting and other distracted driving has contributed.

The only question I have for auto companies, putting a 17” computer monitor on your dash with a hundred flashing buttons like many cars have now isn’t distracting drivers?

Also, my honest belief is that added technology has made good drivers more lazy and allowing more bad drivers on the roads.

The only saving grace is that automobiles are safer now for passengers in a crash.

While distracted driving is a part of the problem, there is also more drivers on the road today than in the past. Plus obtaining license and getting on 96 months finance term was never as easy like today :)

Agree with this 100%. First, as someone not used to all the lights and driving aids, it can be dangerous when in a rental with this stuff. Second, when your vehicle has all this stuff you become complacent as this stuff does it for you...until it doesn’t. I find with the back up camera, I have to remind myself to check my mirrors.

    Like, so many.
The interior on the 3rd (as you said) is WAY better than the 2nd. And I know it's personal preference, but I personally don't like the styling on the 2nd as much as the 1st or 3rd. Get the newer truck.
ETA the 2nd genners are making me laugh in this thread acting the 3rd gen is a horrible truck and there's no reason to get one. SMH

The 2016 is among the most hated Tacoma’s out there. Get a 2018-2019 if you must get a 3rd gen, else get the 2015.

I ordered from the factory my 2015, I knew it was going to be the last yr. for the 4.0 and I would end up with a proven vehicle and a very desirable vehicle as the yrs passed. Bingo!

I would not say desirable, the market is flooded with 2nd gens. They will never repeat 1st gen histstory, mainly because Toyota bought back all trucks before 2000 and crahsed them leaving only 4 years of production, which made this desire for limited production of trucks.

Lol, they are great trucks nevertheless:cheers:

My Toyota 93 pickup is not desirable either, I can buy those for $500 any day :)

I do hear this as well from my father in law and sister in law who own 3rd gens. They live in pa and hate the way the transmission shifts while on an incline.

Get the second gen man. Rock solid and reliable, and the interior is not that bad. To be honest the second gen interior feels like a truck interior should and is very comfortable. 3rd gen interior reminds me of a car or RAV4 interior. Lots of plastic- don’t really see it aging too well

I love the way My transmission Shift.... No matter what is ahead it knows when to Down shift before the RPM drop and when to up shift without hunting for gears .... Well the controller did miss-judge once at an incline while towing the boat however it did learn from that mistake.... .... with that being said I love my Manual 6 speed.

Well my 15 has a lot of plastic also......but I consider that a good thing.... No rust or termites.

13-15 is the high water mark for Tacoma. If you want a truck to sit in, get a 3rd gen. If you want a truck to drive, get the 15.

If you can’t sit in the truck, how do you drive it?
