Strange power loss from time to time and lunge

So I might not be describing this correctly, but it seems like every now and then the truck just has less power. I guess I get used to it for a while... and then all the sudden whatever that situation is goes away and the truck rockets ahead the next time I accelerate. I've cleaned the mass airflow sensor so I don't really know what else it could be, I read where someone said at high mileage that the cats can become clogged... I don't know how prevalent that is but is there a way to check? Or does anyone have other suggestions?

Also, very very rarely... I'll hit the gas and there's a noticeable delay that almost seems like the brakes were being held? So there's the noticeable delay and then the truck lunges forward, and what I mean rare I mean it's only done it like three times... which might not be an issue but I just want to be proactive.

Also another small theory, or curiosity I guess... I'm still wanted to have the timing chain inspect it to see if it's got any stretch. I was curious if the chain being stretched would cause the truck to not properly be able to adjust the timing, thus resulting in strange performance?

Before pursuing the timing chain(lots of $$$), I would explore all of the less invasive possibilities.
You didn't mention a CHECK light; I suspect you would have. That said, I would hook up a scanner and look for stored/pending codes. A bad CAT should throw a code.
Ensure the air filter(and secondary side of it) are clean.
Scanner data could provide a clue, but you would need to analyze all of the data it provides. Info in the shop manual would help with this.
I keep thinking - drive by wire issue.
Going WAY out on a stretch, you may be dealing with a "leaking" head gasket - not blown yet or weak engine(compression). I know a lot of people here are obsessed with head gasket issues. Any coolant loss - oil consumption?

Have you cleaned Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF)? Takes 15 min and makes a big difference in the responsiveness of Toyotas in my experience.

Throttle delay caused by the updated software from corporate after the “unintended acceleration” issues by some individuals. Coming off the brake to throttle there is a 1-2 second delay. Really noticeable when trying to hook up a trailer to the hitch. When cruising say 30mph keep foot on throttle and lightly hold brake...engine will throttle down by default.

Happens from time to time with me especially in winter when I am wearing by hunting boots. Im size 13. Sometimes boot will hang up on brake and I lose all acceleration. Engine dies down then back to normal.

I had this happen a few times randomly when I know I wasn't on the brake and the accelerator at the same time. I found my brake switch under the brake pedal was not seated properly and was causing the issue. Once I put it in place properly, no issue.

I don't believe there is any leaking or loss of oil/coolant. I will watch it more closely. No codes or anything like that.

Yes I did, does it ever wear out?

Hm, this might be worth checking. Do you have a photo of what this looks like?

Is there anyway to remove the program delay?

Does it do this only when the AC or defrost is on?

No, to be honest I've read many a thread say that it was small oil. Is it truly not?

I think it's whenever as in the winter I don't need it as much as the summer. I will try to take note of it

I don't know what that means "That it was small oil".

That makes no sense to me...

Other people have mentioned that the brake switch adjustment was just iffy enough to turn on the brake lights randomly without a foot on the brake. As mentioned above, this tells the ECU to cut the power. Try just barely pressing the brake and see if it acts the same way.

I wouldnt worry about the cats just yet. If they were clogged the engine would lack power all the time not intermittently

Here's the location of the switch. It's the white and blue switch behind the brake pedal.

No the throttle body gets dirty from the PCV system and requires periodic cleaning...

Alright I'm not against trying it... Haha, I just saw a lot of people calling others silly for trying such.

Is there safe method to do so?

    Nothing unsafe about it.

Here is a video of someone doing it to a 2012 Tacoma v6.
