I recommend the Richmoind Gear Powertrax...

Its the same as the Lockrite but different... It engages nicer...

Auto locker will increase your driveshaft lash by about 30%... This is why it doesn't pair as nice with an auto vs man trans...

    I've run a Lockrite in a Ford 8.8 for over 100,000....

There is a lot of nonsense on here from people with no experience, I don't know why you'd even open your mouth if you don't know wtf your talking about??

Why would someone disgruntled enough to put their Canyon as an Avatar on a Tacoma site have anything to say anyway?

This is incorrect. Lunchbox lockers are not "always locked", they lock when a certain amount of torque is applied to the wheels.

    Here's another thing...

If you put one in the front you will be fine if your 4WD turns off...lol

Even with locking hubs locked, the locker won't work without driveshaft input...

It is correct the locker is always locked, but it unlocks very easy when there is no power coming from the driveshaft...

OP, You know what your talking about.

1" front lift. Add a leaf in rear. Rear lock rite lunchbox. Twin stick. Front/rear receiver winch.
Janster said some very inaccurate things, which is why I brought this thread back. People look this stuff up, so it would be nice if they didn't find false info. Even if you had a spool up front, the ADD would make it so you couldn't tell it's there in 2wd.

Lunchbox lockers always give power to at least one wheel (the inside). Going straight, they act fully locked. Around a corner, they let the outside wheel disconnect. The clicking you hear is the outside wheel ratcheting because it's traveling faster than the locked inside wheel. A lot of people say these lockers sometimes fail to disengage when powering around a tight corner. That is not true. The truth is that since only the inside wheel is getting power, it is very likely to break traction and hop a little. It makes it feel like both tires are locking up, but they aren't.

Also, when you hit the brakes... It may feel like the truck is floating to the right or left..

Yeah this is what I experienced with one in the rear of my Prerunner when the roads were wet, which is why I wouldn't recommend one to anyone that uses their rig as a daily. Not in the rear diff anyway.

Pot_lickr: agreed. That was what I was getting at.

However, if you just have a stock ADD front with no manual hubs, when in 2wd, the driver front turning will cause the driver side of the diff to lock up. This will cause the drive shaft to turn at all times. I personally don't care about that, but some people might not like the added wear.

True you do learn to drive differently with it, but that doesn't make them less of a pain in bad weather when it's not always possible to be driving perfectly 100% of the time esp when you have to consider other crappy drivers on the road. If I had a dedicated crawler, I'd have no issue putting them in front/rear but otherwise I think selectable lockers are worth every penny over what a lunchbox costs.

I use my truck on gravel roads daily, so I like the lunchbox in the rear. If I just drove on the pavement most the time, I wouldn't like it so much. Though I probably still would go that route because I'm poor.

I think the pulling when braking is caused my the momentum of the front diff and driveshaft being transferred to the front driver wheel.

If you don't have those pennies to spend, then a lunchbox in the rear is something to consider. You just need to know what you're getting into. The front is a different story. I'm planning to spend a little extra for a truetrac in the front. I think a lunchbox in the front is a little more than I'm willing to deal with on the hwy.

Or just do what @Wulf did and say "F it" and just weld the rear entirely, lol.

Potlickr: the lockrite is made by powertrax. That's what I have in my rear. It has some slop, but it's not extreme imo. I'm interested if they make a locker that has less slop though. The powertrax Grip Lok has some slop as well; more or less than the lock right I don't know.

Powertrax and lockright are made by Richmond Gear..

And yes, they both have slop.. but he powertrax engagement is much nicer..

Sometimes when you load up the lock right going up a hill, and the last turn you made left the clutches not meshed... When the center pin ramps the clutch and it slips and engages under load...WHACK!!!

    lol

I took my pot apart a few times to check on thingsa in there..
