I've had one windsheild mount for years on two different trucks and they have never come off, were you buying cheap ones maybe?

I use a quad lock ... but it’s because I also have the bike mount and armband for running, but the car window mount is rock solid as are the others

I have the Ram pillar mount and also have a rear view mirror riser coming with a RAM ball mount on it as well, look like a good option if you want to see phone for nav.

I bought two, a short one for the phone and the taller one for a tablet. Haven't tried the tablet one yet as I don't have a tablet.
The one for the phone is good. I thought it would be in the way while driving but it isn't. I can still open the center console.

I don't want to play the Devils advocate, but why does everyone need their phones and tablets while they are driving? I understand the need for gps and the Bluetooth for phonecalls. I put my phone in the little shelf to the right of the steering wheel. When I get to my destination I check it. If you are caught on your phone in canada, you get a $1000 fine and walk for 14 days

For the last 13 years 80% of the time with no passenger's, the front right seat cushion works great. I did Pull the black triangle plastic piece on the left side of the A/C controls and screw in a phone base for that 20% of the time. But I over-do everything.

Mainly, this post amuses me? Why would anyone go out of their way to mount a phone that just gets in the way???

Who looks at their phone when driving? Why would you have to, except to think it is fun hobby to cause accidents?

I don't have a mount yet but more and more I see a need for one. For gps sometimes, the spoken directions are not 100% clear in tricky areas and it's easier to just see the map. Using Bluetooth streaming for music it would be convenient to have it up and easily visible than down next to the shifter. 08's don't have any compatibility built in with the stock radio.

Phone fits in one of those two rubber cup holders. If you have one of those mega-phones, you may need to remove one of the rubber cups but it still works. Perfect viewing for maps while driving.

Other common spot is in the long narrow tray next to the auto shifter.

Dunno why you need a fancy mount, unless you’re actually using all your cup holders.
