Today comin up I-81 i noticed that instead of one state trooper sitting at a speed trap like usual there were 3 or even 4 troopers stacked up watching one direction. why was this different than the usual one cop per speed trap or the occasional number two looking the opposite direction?

    Build thread in sig...
i know it's like this in florida, and i think it's the same here in va...they have the new "move over" law that says if there is a police vehicle, ambulance, fire truck, etc on the side of the road with it's lights going, you either have to pull over so you are not in the lane right next to them, or slow down to 25 mph below the posted speed limit, or else you can be pulled over and ticketed. i spoke with an officer in florida abotu this and he said sometimes they will get two or three cruisers together, pulll someone over for legit speeding or some other violation, and while the one officer writes the citation, the other two will wait for someone to break the "move over" rule, and pull them over. the officer i spoke with said sometimes they'll just play leapfrog doing that for a few miles and then start over.

so that could be the case, or there could have just been a few more units at that trap for no particulat reason whatsoever. just a gues.

that would make sense but I-81 is only a has 2 lanes on each side so idk how i would move over and leave a blank lane. maybe there were just a few more units out but at every single speed trap there were atleast 3. maybe they were looking for someone in particular

here in GA, GSP (GA State Patrol) will team up w/ the local police and/or sheriff depending on jurisdiction. The will get one officer on the overpass clocking traffic with laser and they will have 3-4 waiting on the onramp to pull you over as you pass by. Very efficient.

they do that here in wichita, normally near an on ramp or overpass, just to catch speeders and the like and stack resources in one area. It doesnt stop people from speeding a mile down the road though.

I live in Mansfield, Ohio and on Route 30 at Trimble road the stack crusers on the entrance ramp with the radar unit on the overpass. They get 3-5 car stops every 10 min. At about $110 bucks a tickett.... Do the math.

I've seen this quite a bit, especially in Georgia. 1 guy clocking speeders and a pile of patrol vehicles to pull people over. The guy with the radar gun never has to move.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
The local cops in the city I work in do this. They aren't allowed to use radar so they have a portable VASCAR device that sits by the side of the road. It is powered by a jump start pack. They have an unmarked watcher that relays the speed and vehicle to the awaiting patrol cars. They take truns pulling people over. It's pretty easy to spot since it requires the reflectors to be on the opposite side of the road facing the main unit.

Read up on Castle Rock vs Gonzales. It's not about protect and serve...Which is why you don't see that on the cars any more. Cops are nothing more than armed historians with occasionally stop crimes in progress.

In Montana there is a group of 5(the Goon Squad) that travel around the state. It can be anything from Seat Belt violation to Speeding. That also gives them a chance for a quick Look/See as they approach the rig.

In Louisiana they do this when they are running an airplane to catch speeders. A small plane flys up and down a stretch of Interstate while an officer in the plane uses a stopwatch and two lines painted on the road to determine if a car is speeding. He then radios to the officers on the ground which car to stop.

I would recommend a radar detector, but I see you are in VA so I guess that is not an option.

We got a law in Louisiana that allows you to use the right lane for a passing lane only, you can't ride the lane. It make sense because there's people who drive slow in the fast lane that makes it unsafe because people have the urge to pass that person by weaving in and out of traffic.

I got picked off today too. I wasn't even going 5 over, (A 2 and a half hour drive and I get pulled over 10 miles from the yard) but he wrote me up for 10 over. It's such a joke. It really sucks that I have a CDL and driving a big truck they pull you over for fun. Bad pig no Donut. I guess thats what lawyers are for.

I feel the same way. I don't mind the officers who are actually out there to do their job and help the citizens in need. But I cannot stand the assholes who think that just because they have a badge, they are better than everyone else.
