Yeah CA sucks but they don't suck that bad lol. Massachusetts actually has stricter laws in place as far as cosmetically modifying a vehicle which is what a snorkel falls under because you aren't really changing anything to do with the emissions. CA is only really strict when it comes to emissions stuff, we get away with big lifts, bumpers, lights, fenders, tires, etc that some states crack down harder on.

But ya if you want to do anything to your powertrain or exhaust then it better be CARB certified or you're boned

I wonder if ARB has the mounting hardware for their snorkel available to order? After watching this vid, I kind of like how the ARB version has those A-pillar 'liners' for the mount holes and how it puts a bit of space between the bracket and the a-pillar. Yeah I know, dont over think it...

Drove through torrential rain this AM headed out to the desert, was worried the snorkel was taking in too much water but when I pulled into the gas station to check the filter it was dry as a bone. Some water/moisture at the bottom of the air box in front of the filter but it wasn't wet to the touch and nothing wet behind it. Considering the rain I was pushing through on the freeway I was impressed.

Thought I'd share in case anyone was wondering how they'd hold up in a downpour, I know it was one of my concerns back when I was considering purchasing one.

Or just turn the top piece to face the rear. You will lose the 0.0000000000000000000152 HP increase from the ram air effect though... :deadhorse:

I've got a better air ramming device anyway, under the hood where the stock intake manifold used to be

I was fully willing and prepared to turn the snorkel head around after we pulled over and I went to check the air filter believing it was going to be soaking wet, but it wasn't...so the head stays forward. I think they look kinda odd facing backward anyway but I know it serves a purpose

Only time I'll turn it around is if I'm planning on bombing through water crossings or water pits...I've thrown sheets of water into the forward facing snorkel that way and it does make its way to the filter in that case. Still not terrible but last time my filter had wet spots and some mud stains on it

I mainly wanted to use this cool gif I found. But it illustrates how the snorkel similarly works.

Lower speed air enters, is accelerated through the snout piece causing most water/rain to make contact with the sides and back and run out of the holes/slots, then opens up and decelerates into the larger section. Larger quantity of water would pool here before running into the stock air box where it’ll pool at the bottom of it.

Went ahead and turned the head around today since LA is getting hit with a huge week long storm startng tonight....equals flooded streets and a lot of water.

Did some hard pulls on the way to the store just now and holy shit, with the window down and the head pointed toward the cab I can hear the supercharger screaming through the snorkel lol. It's like a PA for the blower

I might keep it this way just for that

They probably hear it anyway it's pretty loud under the hood, just never had it coming in from the passenger window like that

That's pretty cool! No issues with AFR or anything else with the blower and snorkel?

Nope, none as far as the snorkel goes...my numbers aren't 100% but they never really have been, my truck tends to lean out a bit under certain conditions (even after the 7th injector install) but the numbers have stayed the same post-snorkel as they were before.

I am looking forward to seeing what they look like come summer time when the outside temps get to be really hot - that's when my truck has always performed the worst. Engines in general prefer cold air but a boosted engine prefers it all the more, and my intake temps in the summer time have gotten as high as 140 degrees, since these 1st gen superchargers don't have intercoolers they tend to get really hot esp when it's hot outside. I'm hoping that the snorkel will help bring those down a bit since it's pulling air in directly from outside and not within the wheel well closer to the heat of the engine. I don't expect it to be a dramatic difference but every little bit helps.

Awesome, I'd be curious to see how it is in the summer too. I've always thought about boosting and regearing my truck.....It feels so underpowered in the hills loaded down for camping

Hell mine still feels underpowered when it's loaded down lol, you should see me trying to get up the highway into Big Bear (big mountain out here) when I have all my camping gear in the truck. I have to hug the slow lane and let everyone around me, and that's with a supercharger lol.

Weight adds up fast on these trucks that's for sure

This post was made in another snorkel thread, regarding turning the head backwards...figured I'd share it here since we've been talking about it some.

Sounds like solid info to me, I'll keep the head backwards while this storm is in town but won't be leaving it that way
