Just a thought for those who have used the Diode dynamics switchback DRL'S. The Amber's cannot be used as an always on DRL because it's set at 200% and will burn out too fast. Now the module has a 50% and 100% for the white DRL. If wires coming out of the module so the amber is getting 50 or 100% will it work?

Love the amber tinted DRL. How’s the color in front of the stock white LEDS?

The acrylic strips are a nice touch on the turn bucket fins. At one point I was going to make those illuminated but never got around to it. Would look cool in the amber.

 

I've changed the stock white to amber also, so they're full-on amber.

The strips will be illuminated and aid with signaling. Can't wait to get it done

Anyone in and around a Central Florida skilled at performing a standard BHLM. I got my hands on a set of backup OEM headlights and kind of afraid to attempt this. I’m not very patient and I have not seen a confirmed temperature and time to make this happen. I know me, I’ll over bake these suckers. Thanks

Been wanting to do the BHLM forever and finally got around to it last week. 4 days of on and off work and I couldn’t be happier!

 

This mod was by far the hardest I’ve taken on.

 

I've wondered the answer to both these questions as well. When I do mine later this month I was thinking of trying the freezer combined with direct shots from an upside down air can, just to see if it would work at all. I really don't want to waste the money but the more I think about it, I'll probably just buy some practice headlights to play around with and learn/experiment on. Every time I do any sort of project, I always tell myself what mistakes not to make the second time around. I don't want to be thinking about how I made those mistakes with the oem headlights from my brand new truck.

As for your second comment. That's one of the things I'm going to try and avoid most of all. I plan on going very slow and reheating as many times as necessary because I REALLY don't want some shitty looking housings that looked like they were chewed up by a wild animal.

I’m getting this stuff for removing the permaseal. Looks like it turns it to hardened RTV consistency.

I think it would be more effective at removing the permaseal after the lens has been removed but I imagine it would help with both. Check out the reviews on YouTube.

 

Do not get that anywhere near the lense. Also, be very careful and wear your PPE while using it.

 

Thanks for the tip. I’m planning on using it after the lense has been removed to soften the permaseal in the channel, hopefully making it easier to remove.

 

Curious though, why do you say not to get it near the lense? In the instructions is says it can be used on the lense:

“HOW TO: Start round-one of opening as usual, 15-30 minutes in a pre-heated oven at roughly 250 degrees F. Starting in the corner of the light, start prying and creating a gap between the two halves of the housing. Once the seal is accessible, inject the Permatrator onto the surface of the glue, let sit for 1-2 minutes, and continue to pry. Depending on the headlight, you may need to repeat the heating / prying / injecting process over again.”

I personally wasn’t going to simply because I don’t want to clean the lenses of any residue. I’ve read they’re impossible to clean on the inside and that you’re screwed if you try cleaning the inside of the lense using any method. From what I’ve read, as soon as the lense is separated, wrap in plastic wrap to keep it clean, and never wipe the inside even with a microfiber towel.

 

Yeah I don't know why they say it's okay, but there have been a few guys report that it will cause the lense to spider crack and become brittle and basically disintegrate/fall apart.
