OFFICIAL - 3rd GEN 275/70r17 Tire Thread

I was considering 285s just didn’t want any rubbing possibility. Unfortunately living in an apartment I don’t have access to my welder right now.
Or I probably would’ve gone with the larger and been able to do all the fixes if need be. Regardless theblook is great and wife’s happy that’s all that matters

Lift was simple to install. The 6112s were a bit of a pain to install the coil because the clamps I used didn’t allow to easily slid over the strut body. Should have just had wheelers do that for cheap. Also cutting the rivets off the stock spring retainers on the rear leafs wasn’t hard at all. And only had to do the rear retainers and one off the overload leaf

 

So you were able to do the full install yourself? This would be my first install if I decide to tackle on my own. Any recommendations or should I consider going to a shop? Will have to go to a shop to get tires and wheels done. Thanks

 

I did the entire install. If you plan on doing the add a leafs be prepared to do a little grinding of a couple rivets. Outside of that very easy to do. You can rent a spring compressor or buy one cheap to do the front coils or you could have a company like wheelers sell you them ready to go. The install is extremely easy but I’ve been working on Toyota’s for a very long time now. I would learn how to do it yourself there are a lot of videos showing it. I’m into doing my own work but if you don’t feel comfortable I would look into a shop. It’s honestly not that hard at all

 

Where’d you find the Wildpeaks in 275? Every place I’ve seen they are “Currently OOS”. I’m shitting myself I missed a used set on eBay for $600.

I am very confused. Original tire size on my 2018 TRD Sport is 265/65 17. When I plug in the 275/70 17 in a tire size calculator and compare, it puts me over that 3% Saftey range...so what gives? If I lift the truck a couple of inches does that margin of difference no longer matter?

 

Forgive my ignorance but what is the "3% Safety Range" you're talking about?

 

If the diameter of the two sizes differ more than 3% there is a disclaimer on all tire size calculator sites that states it becomes dangerous, it also effects the speedometer. I’m not sure if it still matters if the truck is lifted...???

Yes it will affect the speedometer reading.

When I got a speeding ticket I went to get my speedometer checked. What I learned from a dyno operator is that most factory speedometer calibrations are +/- 5% so increasing tire size may increase or decrease your speedo accuracy.

Lift will not affect speedometer accuracy but will affect mpgs.

The only thing I know safety related is you'll want to be careful going too wide a tire on your wheel of choice.

 

It's going to be super dangerous and you shouldn't do it.

Maybe get some smaller tires to make it safer?

 

To anyone running the pro wheels with this size and lift, are spacers required?

 

Yes, there is. I have seen them on here. You do not need spacers. Your stock sport wheels are +30 offset. Pro wheels are +4 offset. Pro wheel will sit out 1" farther than your stock wheels. If you kept your stock wheels on you would need at least a 1" spacer. I researched this, as I was going install 275/70/17 on my sport wheels.

Hmm any thoughts on mounting this to a 17x8.5. The wheels I like come in either +12mm or -12mm offset. Ive been making an excel spreadsheet of what others have reported working, and I'm stuck. I want clearance between the tire and uca -12 would give, but it seems that might add some plastic trim work.

 

I have the SCS 17x18.5 with 4.3” bs and -10mm offset on these if that helps. Minor trim on plastic with under 2 1/2” lift and no rubbing on Icon billet UCAs

 

Does anyone know if 17" FN FX pros with Falken Wildpeaks 275/70/17's will fit without rubbing on a stock suspension? I compared dimensions between the KO2's (E rated - 32.2" diameter, 11" Wide) and Wildpeaks (C rated - 32.4" Diameter, 10.8" Wide), it seems like it'd work? I'm no expert at this stuff though so i figured I'd ask someone before I order tires.

 

I used this thread a lot to make my decisions so I felt like I should contribute.

Bilstein 5100s set at 1.75” and stock rear. Fuel Ripper wheels 17X9 and 275/70 17 KO2s. So far no rubbing at all (haven’t done much flexing yet) and honestly not a very significant power loss. Pretty happy with the setup, but I’m always going to be thinking about a lighter Falken Wildpeak in a 265 or a bigger KO2 in a 285. I will never be totally happy...
