No , This was a meet of The Mid Atlantic Smiths Association. They have parking lot sales, demonstrators technical discussions on metals, procedures and theory etc . The person I take classes with made this hammer and I do like the style for some work short haft but good heft makes detail work on some pieces a bit easier.
The guy I take classes with from time to time http://www.brokenhammerforge.com/ and the guy who made the hammer. The demonstrator http://thebarnstudio.ca/gallery/album/blacksmithing-hand-forged/terry-sheridan-at-the-forge I could post some other pictures but there is probably only about 5 people in here that would be interested . If you like I will pm to you.

Ok in a few I have a couple more things to do before I can really sit just passing by the machine here and there. If you have no need of the book I most certainly would be interested the book. Discussions of metallurgy for the type of metals used in blacksmithing leave me in the weeds occasionally as they are quite different then what is used in aircraft or other precision metal working. A lot of the metals used in the aircraft industry are austenitic stainless micro grain structures or high grade alloys of monel, titanium, Inconel , Hastelloy, Molybendum, DU and Alum alloys 2024 T3-T6,5052 H32, 6061 T-6, 7075 T-3-T-6 and so on . Essentially none that you would attempt to forge in a home or even a medium size shop forge you would have a problem getting to or maintaining the heat needed along with the associated power to move the metal with anything but a power hammer or hydraulic press.

It's pretty funny here in So Cal, if it's under 70 degrees people bust out their Uggs and parka's, and So Cal drivers are the absolutely worst drivers in the rain..

No worries I have fairly decent library of books on metal but interestingly enough my older books offer the most information when dealing with blacksmith stuff . So the older books do have a use. I do chuckle when some of the young guys who have never actually worked metal but have watched forged in fire have no idea what metal to use but they know the 4 or 5 knife metals that is it. I wish I could video one of them when they grab mild steel and make a knife blank and try to heat treat it .... lol the face they make and the whining about how this is crap metal is hilarious. Oh and for the record many times people who do know have tired to tell them you can not make a functional knife out unknown steels. I do not know any one who owns a XRF gun not a lab to analyze the material . Spark testing is ok for basic stuff but.. you must know what the sparks are supposed to look like for base metals or your screwed lol

The absolute worst in the rain. They either don’t slow down at all and race around like raging lunatics or they go 20 mph in the fast lane.

All this means is that we will need to be extremely careful and leave extra early this coming week.
