If I am going for MPG's my truck gets better if I drive with a bit more "spirit" getting it up to cruising speed. I also tend to keep an eye on my instant eco in the center display and adjust gears/rpm accordingly once I have reached my desired speed.

In my stock truck I've found I get the best mileage most of the time if I don't display any mpg displays. Just drive like you always would without them and see what happens. It's not great mileage but not bad when it's mostly uphill coming home from town.

Similar to my experience. Mine gets better mpgs on 91 tune running 93 octane gas.

Why would removing the rack "make the truck come alive"

Just got back from a ~300 mile mostly highway trip using 1.05/93. As many have reported, highway driving is much nicer now. Cruise is serviceable. Mostly bounced back and forth in 5th and 6th, but would drop to 4th on some longer sloping hills. I ended up just dropping cruise and manipulating the pedal to stay in 5th on those occasions. MPGs for the trip were 17.5 (no weight or performance mods on the truck).

It really is just a matter of learning how to drive the truck again...the shifting can be easily manipulated with subtle use of the pedal.

Yeah I loaded 87 Tune yesterday morning. Drives better bc it forces a down shift earlier than 93 tune giving the truck more torque but I can still get the truck to buck between 1200-1500 with slight load. I'm 95% sure its the heavy 33"s throwing the rpm range out of power band which will require a custom tune to fix. My original post wasn't to point out the issue but to seeing if anyone else saw the same behavior.

I'm still getting an mpg hit above 75mph (1-1.5 mpg) vs the 1.04 93 tune. The TC wont lock in 6th gear but again my tires are messing it all up.

Yes I've already sent an email to OVTune Saturday.

87 is nice because not only is it cheaper but never need worry about what you put in your tank. Some folks love 87 so I tried it, and at first was very happy (after just quick test around the block) but the next day after really driving it, i noticed a longer first gear and subtle idle pulsing while stopped in D, these two things were the only difference 87 and 91 that i noticed, and although minor, these two things alone was enough for me to flash back to 91 and am back to being happy as a clam. Every truck seems to take these tunes differently, i have never read anywhere in this forum about a pulsing idle at stops, or first gear being too long, so this is likely just my truck (or my over-sensitive anal analysis!). Anyway, i am glad i tried it, now i never have the think about 'what if' every time i go to a gas station paying for 91 and thinking i could be just as happy or even happier and paying less on 87! Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'm going to try another Shell tank after I finish this Sam's tank on the 93 tune because I do really love the way the 93 tune handles everything. If that doesn't improve the mpg, I may then drop down to the 1.05-91 tune while still using 93 octane fuel. Hell, I might do that just to see what it's like! :D

For the record, I live for all of this hacking and experimental shit, so none of this mpg stuff actually bothers me. I'm having a blast with the new tune, and the truck now drives like I hoped it would from the start. I just love talking about it, as well, so please don't interpret any previous or future posts on this subject as complaints.

Thanks again for the feedback and advice! :hattip:

I dropped my Sam's membership some time ago after it became obvious that the name brand items they carried were not the same quality as retail. Case in point (no pun intended) - I used to buy cases of StarKist canned tuna from them, and multiple cans in each case would contain bone chunks. Lots of bone chunks, like the processing plant just threw the leftover carcasses into a grinder. I have never gotten a single bone in any can of StarKist bought from a normal retail outlet. Simplest explanation is that Sam's was using its buying power to lowball manufacturers on price, and the manufacturers were responding by producing lower quality, "Sam's specific" product. So the same might be happening with their gas - they are sourcing the cheapest possible version, with resulting poor quality control.

Mine did that slight rpm jump too at a stop but it goes away after 100 miles or so.

thanks, did you notice 1st gear revving a little longer before shifting into 2nd? And rpm while stopped in D, mine pulsated from 600 down to 500, about ever 2 seconds, and when down to 500 (for about 1 second) i could feel it in the seat and even the dashboard, did you experience this too?

This could also be perceived power via butt-dyno. If you smooth out power delivery but accelerate quicker, you'll still feel like you have more power if you gave the same throttle position and felt a kick in the ass and snapped your head back, even if that rate of acceleration is slower. You perceived more of a change, and so you think there's more power.

I don't have Dyno results from 1.04 to 1.05, but a lot of people will likely be fooled by the above IF that's what's happening.

I also experience this same bucking. I have a ticket into Mat. I am stock with the exception of 265/75/16 tires. I don’t have enough miles since flashing to say it is not a learning issue. Does anyone think it should be flashed to stock to figure it out, or should just log more miles to see if it will clear up? Just don’t want to damage the engine in anyway. Besides this the truck drives great. Also noticed the bucking when accelerating hard (getting up to highway speed) within the first 1-4 gears then goes away.
