Lol. I got a great deal on mine. It was color matched, carpeted and had roof racks. I picked it up in Indiana.

I had a silver cap that matched my truck w/o racks. I bought thule racks and bars on Amazon for like $400 or something. Then found this MGM cap for $500 w/ racks. Returned the stuff to amazon and sold my cap for $600. I got paid to have the racks..only thing is I have an MGM cap on silver truck which doesn't look horrendous. Point being, yes..it's usually cheaper to find the cap w/ racks on it.

I think it depends. I've been searching and posting caps on for idk how many years now, but the avg price I'd say for a cap with racks is around $600 in good condition. If you can score a cap for $200 or under, and add the racks yourself, you can come in under that $600. Rhino makes a whole rack system for like $350, Thule is a bit more, or you can buy a used system.

I will say, best deal I saw so far (years ago) was a reinforced cap with racks and windoors, front folding window, all for $400. I think it was for a long bed, or else it'd by on my truck right now haha

They have a higher chance of breaking due to fatigue, won't last as long unless properly maintained.
    Much more maintenance, cleaning inspection.
Protecting the line when it's out on the ground, cuts can happen on rocks and trees.
Less travel off of the whinch, need at least 8 wraps at least where as cable is only 4.
There are probably more you should look it up.
I run synthetic line for the weight and manuverability.

Thanks Rick. Weight would be my biggest concern. I am only running 6112s up front and those coils are only 600lb or thereabouts. I wish they were 700lbs. Once I add an armored bumper and a winch something may have to change up front.

Pretty sure you can have the coils swapped, if I'm not mistaken @Subway4X4 is/was running 6112s with 700lb coils.
