There’s no skipping Holcomb if you take lower larga, there’s no turn offs and it connects directly to Holcomb.
Larga is a good way to skip the gatekeeper on Holcomb

Yep. I wouldn’t call it short and moderate though haha.

It’s a fun trail, it does have technical sections so if you’re going in the snow take it slow! And as mentioned, it bypasses the gate keeper and some of Holcomb creek, but once you start 2n06x short of turning around there’s no early exit.

There’s a lot more than just these two sections, but all I could find pictures of.
    Maybe @Prayn4surf has more.

I think that trail in the snow will be challenging to say the least. Ill dig up some photos later today, but not sure I would even want to do the bypass in the snow.

Damn, glad I checked with you guys first. Thanks for the heads up, looks like we'll be skipping it in the snow especially since it's looking like it'll just be the two of us on Sunday.

Weird, because Trailsoffroad.com rated it as an 'easy to moderate' trail (same as Heartbreak Ridge) and they usually rate trails as being more difficult than they actually are in my experience. The video on their page of the Jeeps doing it makes it look pretty easy. But they might have done Largo Flats several years ago for all I know, probably changed some since then. And yeah I don't really want to do Holcomb when the snow is going to be at it's deepest lol.

Probably aim to do Heartbreak instead since I've never done that one

there are two trails holcomb valley and holcomb creek, holcomb creek is what we did, I would not do that in the snow, because the end gatekeeper in the snow will be bad. One person in our group got highcentered and snapped his chromoly cv. Danny's vid is the bypass, and is a cake walk compared to either gatekeeper

yeah Holcomb Valley is just 3N16 right? The fire road that stretches from Green Valley to Gold Mountain (probably further)? I haven't done Holcomb Creek but yeah I hear they're two very different animals lol. Passed by the gatekeeper to Holcomb Creek both times I was up there last and it looks fun, eventually

I remember some v notches but honestly those don't really stick out as much in my memory as the rocks. Rain always changes the trail, but v notches I never find to difficult to navigate. I'm just busting your balls cause its what I do haha. Still a fun trail, but in the snow there would be carnage.

yeah, I need something new to do up there (tire of White/Gold Mountain, plus I learned my lesson on Gold in the snow last year)...I think Heartbreak Ridge is the only moderate trail left to do up there that I haven't done. John Bull and the like are going to have to wait until the snow clears at least for me.

When the snow melts I want to do this trail again and go through both gatekeepers. It would be awesome to have you join in again. Or if your planning on making that run let me know.

Man I get so confused by JB versus Holcomb...half the people I talk to say Holcomb is easier, the other half say 'no way, John Bull is way easier'....I don't know what to believe lol. Well, I'd trust any of you guys that have done both. Mostly, haha

I’ve only done JB but by the end I was immune to metal hitting rocks and losing momentum due to rocks

Did I mention there’s a lot of rocks?

Yeah Holcomb only has a few obstacles after the entrance, JB kinda comes at ya the whole time. I guess both can break stuff, but JB is a constant climb, vs Holcomb being mostly flat
