    Hello,

I bought my son a new 2009 Tacoma TRD Double Cab Sport model for his 16th birthday. I told him if he stayed out of trouble, no tickets, no accidents, great grades etc that after a year I would get him rims and tires. Well the time is up and he wants to put 18" wheels and tires on it. I have been told it will require a spacer to level the front. Can anyone recommend a shop in So Cal Orange County area that does good work? Also if he wants a lift would that be better in the long run versus the spacer? Thank you for your help.

What size of tire you going to get? Deminsions? Also a spacer is good but to keep ride quality you should go with a toytec lift, OME, or coilovers? Also how high did you/he want to lift it?

Man your son is lucky! No freaking way my parents would have done that for me.

Go with Billsteinn 5100s and an Add A Leaf in the rear they will give 2.5" of lift for a good price. They also are going to ride way better then spacers or the stock shocks.

OME 3" lift with 885 coils. OME Shocks with TSB 1.5 AAL. 285/75/16 KM2s. XD Hoss 16" wheels. DDM Tuning 6000K HIDs, H10 6000K Fogs. BHLM. Debaged. 20% tint on front windows.
What size tires does he want? Make sure the back spacing is no larger than 4.5 or you would need wheel spacers for the wheels. You could checkout for lifts or http://downsouthmotorsports.com/

Man, I wish I were that lucky at 16...I had to drive a 98 Ford Escort wagon. Sorry, nothing useful to add here...just make sure your son knows how lucky he is!!!!!! If he misbehaves, give me a call, I'll take the truck off your hands ;)

Well what he wants and what I will buy are different...He would like 18" wheels with 33" tires, but I think I would like to keep it more resonable. A 285/65/18 tire would be fine in my opinion, and I wouldnt have to put a 6" lift on it. If a 3" lift is reasonable I would consider that route. I will definetly put up before and after pictures as soon as we figure this out. Thanks.

Those 285s might rub on the upper control arm if you go with a 3" lift and it will require some minior cutting in the feder just all depends on the tire that you get and back spacing.

X2, shouldn't have too much of a problem IMO, like krimson said, some minor trimming and minor rubbing on the UCA's.

Also note if you go 285's and it's wheeled at all... it'll need a body mount chop under full flex it'll rub.

Also, I know he wants 18's but tires should be a lot cheaper on 16 and 17's... just something to ponder.

I'm going the OME route on my truck with the TSB add a leaf (I can link if you want, but basically the dealer will upgrade the three leafs to the four leafs for free under warranty). I'll probably do another leaf myself on top of the four but I'll see how it goes. The OME setup should net around 2.5" for what I'm going to set it to.

    You're an awesome Dad.

My parents gave me that same Offer when I was young. However mine was for the entire High School period.

Lets say I didn't get a New Car for shit. :(

Come out to BOLSA this weekend as you'll see plenty of different options and get better information. The last thing you want is to spend money on things that will DAMAGE your Tacoma.
