I would've been shitting In my pants if I had any shit left .A mile earlier in this drive I had already accepted the fact I was going to be stuck in here. According to my maps, just after the hill I finally rested at, there was a road exiting down the mountain. I was shooting for that. When I got out and walked I found that road to be closed, permanently with concrete blocks. I know how stupid this was but I survived and it was a lot of fun . I regret nothing and Ive watched both videos a hundred times just for the sheer beauty and serenity of the drive . But yes when the truck started bouncing I knew I was doomed .

I’ve had plenty of situations like this on a dual sport. It’s a catch 22. If you turn around you feel like a pussy......continue on and scare the shit out of yourself.
I’ve come to the conclusion adventure requires some degree of fear and there is no adventure in turning around.

Still missing a hand. physically and emotionally he's better than ever. His words. Me, not so much. I think part of me was hoping to die in the snow.

Cool video very pretty not much snow like that in my town I have to head to higher elevation.

I made that mistake one late afternoon hunting with a friend. Ended up down a single track road that was getting deeper and deeper we decided to try and turn around. Turning around got us stuck. No radio no shovel we ended up having to dig the truck out by hand and rocking the truck back and forth at dusk. Now I always have my shovel in the bed of my truck and if I’m going in show I will keep a bag of sand in the bed. It also didn’t help I had the factory tires on which are awful in snow.

That was my problem, as long as I could keep moving forward I won't risk trying to turn around.

You keep saying “according to the maps”, were you using the GPS? Curious as I’ve followed mine down some single track trails it showed as roads and had to move boulders out of the way on one of them in Eastern Oregon, and had to turn around at a locked gate on one in New Mexico. That nav system shows a lot of roads that most shouldn’t try without the right vehicle or equipment. Wonder if they’re the same on all Toyota vehicles because had I been driving a Toyota sedan, it would be returning back on the back of a recovery flatbed on some of those roads!

This was 30" of powdery packed snow. It was below 0 and everything was fluffy cotton candy. I think they performed great considering . But to each his own .

These are the apps I use plus a paper map. Some apps are good for only one thing and some are great for a lot .if you're looking you should check these out.

I use TopoMaps, too when on trail- which of your apps shown does best for you?

By the way, nice video- you handled it well. I hate it when the snow gets just right and deep enough to do that lurching wheel hop thing. Really dry powder on dry pavement is much easier to handle at depth!

@gearcruncher was right though, I run KO2’s also but wouldn’t on snow. They have really hard rubber that is great on rock (why I have them), but the lugs bind up very easily with snow and suck. I also had much worse wheel hop with them than with snow tires. You wouldnt have had a problem with mud rated KO’S or snow tires. Its not just my opinion, I lived and worked in the Sierra at 8000 ft and have always used KO’s, but I did not keep mine on for very long there. I have been back on KO2’s with my first gen and now on my 3rd as I drive mainly offroad in the desert for both work and play, and that’s really where they are best.

OnX, Google, and gravelmap.com. What I love about OnX is the property lines, ownership and government land, it's very accurate. The lurching is the best, it's the truck telling you to stop doing what your doing and it's always right.
