I just started scrolling through it! Thanks for giving me something to read tonight hahaha. I think I've always been nervous about tackling a bed build out and having to actually put something together myself, but it's time.

Last time I tried making a "bed build," it was scary bad haha. And by that I mean it broke.

I’ve seen this thread go from Flippac to GFC to almost Drifter and finally to Flippac! I think you definitely made the right choice for your needs. The hangout space you’re looking for is definitely there in the Flippac.

    Also, sick house!!

Yessir, I definitely think the right choice was made and I have no regrets at all. For my budget/needs, this was the ticket and I'm stoked on it.

I did see a GFC today while driving and honestly, I did not feel sad at all that I didn't choose it. Even though I've only hungout in the Flippac once so far as I still haven't got everything setup, I still can not believe the interior space it offers as well as the simplicity of just being able to hangout in your truck. Did see a drifter though and was a little jealous...one day I'll have one.

I do think it's going to be a bit scarier and harder to mounts things to (roof rack, awning, etc) but shouldn't be a problem once I get started. I'm stoked to see how the build progresses and am aiming to do everything right the first time (solar, batteries, wiring, interior build...).

I like the enthusiasm. Getting everything 100% right the first time is a lofty goal. I think you’ll find that what you want today is different than what you want a year from now. So long as you DIY most solutions and take advice from the right people, you should be able to modify your set up pretty easily. Don’t aim for a perfect end game solution, it’s better to adopt a mindset that you’re constantly going to make changes to accommodate your needs at the time. This will allow you to use your truck and your Flippac in numerous ways instead of being pinned down to just one specific application. Experimenting with layouts and build outs is half of the fun.

Although I don’t have a lot of experience with trucks, my advice comes from a background in track cars. A lot of people were searching for that “perfect” setup and were constantly letdown. The people who performed the best had no material attachment to their current setup and were willing to experiment and push boundaries.

Very very true - I think what I meant by finding the right setup the first time was almost like suspension upgrades.

A lot of people start with Bilsteins, then do UCA's, then progressively keep upgrading till they have full coilovers or a hefty-price setup. I want to skip the BS and go straight with a setup which I consider better than a 2x4 and some plywood as a bed build (because I did that before, lol).

Very true with the track car reference. I used to be really into Subaru's and AutoX/Track Days and was constantly changing everything - Bigger injectors, bigger EWG, different tires, different brake pads, etc. All in all I wish I knew the proper setup from the get-go but there's no way to determine that without experimenting. Putting that in bold as that contradicts my first statement of getting everything 100% right the first time hahaha.

Just got done reading all 23 pages. Great looking build. If I was to go super nuts on my truck at this point in life it would be in the same direction as yours. I did the rockcrawler thing with a Jeep that I was making payments on earlier in life and beat it into oblivion, and have no intersest in doing that again. Unfortunately it doesn't appear we have anywhere near the expedition rig opportunities here on the east coast as you guys do out west.

Echo what Iggy said. My build isn't the best looking thing out there, but it works and was cheap. I've offroaded quite a bit with the truck and these wooden cabinets have held up.

Flippac is all set up! Got the hood pins in and everything is good to go for next weeks trip to Mojave. Going to try and rush getting the fridge in the truck before the trip, but odds are slim.

I ordered a ton of small things last night - Roof antenna mount, Baofeng car charger, more bulb sealing, etc.

Also learning how to fly a drone right now and I can honestly say I am beyond terrible haha, but practice makes perfect.

My Dakar leaf pack is starting to poop out on me due to how much weight I have on the bed.

I'm modeling my bed build off yours, spent a good amount of time looking at the picture of it on the Vagabond thread. Do you mind sharing what material you used?

Probably going to paint the Flippac black this spring. Still leaking a bit at the corners of the bed, but there's no front seal in yet. Need some extra hands to lift it before the trip!
