I can answer the first question: the key is still required. The kit adds a separate fob with lock, unlock, and panic buttons.

Hopefully someone else more familiar with aftermarket part button start can answer your other question

    Hi All,

I can confirm that 2018 Tacoma SR is the same directions, the original poster has tem in color which is very helpful.

one weird issue - Lock works perfect, unlock take 3 clicks and both doors unlock at the same time. Anyone else see this?

PS: Parking lights do not flash if you leave it in "daytime running lights" that is included in the doc/instructions

Another item, it appears several Toyota dealers are selling the on eBay, same exact item.

Mine came from Daytona Toyota - you might want to start away from then. Emailed multiple times with no response (it's been a week)

I’m curious if this will work with my 2018 sr crew cab. It was a rental before I bought it. So it has most of the continence package besides keyless. I read on the website that it doesn’t work if you have the TDS system. How do I go about finding that out??

Thank You VERY MUCH for posting this very hard to find information. I am going to install an EBAY aftermarket keyless entry unit in my new 2019 SR and hopefully these connectors are the same.

I received a quote from a local shop that does alarms and radio upgrades as well as keyless entry and remote start installs. They quoted me $169 for keyless or $199 to add keyless access and an alarm system. Parts and labor included. The equipment would be compustar brand so I guess you could look that up and find local installers. I actually put in a system from ebay which comes with 2 key fobs. It only cost $12.55 and works well. I only hooked up 4 wires to the unit and all were located in the drivers kick panel. I hooked up +12V , ground, door lock signal and door unlock signal. I did NOT hook up horn and parking lights because I do not have those connectors located for a 2019 model at this time I am going to upload a file below which is the dealer install instruction for a 2016 model. The toyota control unit is available for about $125 BUT then you have to make must make compatible keys which may cost near $400 That is just Crazy. Go with an aftermarket system...

Here are some comprehensive wiring diagrams for Tacoma 3rd gen 2016+ I found on another thread. I am Not sure if these will apply exactly to my 2019 since some connectors appear different than whats listed. Anyone with 2019 wiring diagrams would be greatly appreciated the share.

Similar topic: I wonder if there's a way to convert an Off-Road key fob truck to a "smart key" version like is available on the Sport. Ever hear of that?

Well, if you are thinking of getting the ebay $12 kit then I can say that my fobs were already BOTH programmed. However ,you can reprogram them if desired. It seems that it must be done very quickly (within several seconds) to get both fobs reprogrammed. The biggest issue for me has been locating the correct connector and pins for the lights and horn. Still waiting for 2019 diagram for that.

I plan to get the Toyota part one. I think the fob can be programmed one at a time (not have to be done same interval). Can someone confirm.

Ok, I understand, however I think the toyota keyless requires that you Also purchase and program toyota keys which may cost about $300 each. I am not absolutely sure about that but you should do your research first because it could get quite expensive. Another alternative is an aftermarket keyless entry installed complete for less than $200 and some include an alarm system in that price. check out vendors for viper and compustar

I could use a push to start upgrade along with the keyless entry... haha
