The auto headlight feature is only available with the Premium Package. I've been looking into aftermarket solutions to that issue myself, but they all seem overly complicated to install and not worth it in the end since you can just leave them on all the time and solve the problem that way (sort of).

As far as being stuck with a 4cyl and no seats, there's really no excuse for overlooking either of those things during the buying process...

I have a 2019 SR base model but my headlights will go off shortly after I lock the doors. I did not expect it but it does work that way. I also installed a $12 keyless entry which came with 2 key fobs and that makes a big difference as a feature I desire especially with the passenger door not have an exterior key. It works well and may be a worthwhile upgrade for others. However I have NOT hooked it up so the lights blink and horn alerts when locking/unlocking because I have NOT located the proper connector /pins for those features for the 2019 model. If anyone has the connector/pins for lights and horn it would be appreciated if you share. Here is a link to a similar kit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTGHyx8Vs44

This is incorrect. Regardless of switch setting, the lights will turn off after a set time. One of my favorite features on my non-tech / non-prem.

I meant a real "Auto Headlight" feature that takes the place of the "DRL" setting on the stalk.

A genuine Auto Headlight feature actually turns the lights on and off using sensors to determine daylight vs darkness, rain versus clear, etc. Auto headlights can also (usually) be set to turn off instantly when the vehicle is turned off.

Simply leaving the lights on all the time, regardless of time of day or driving conditions, and then turning them off 30 seconds after shutting down the vehicle, is NOT the same thing as genuine "auto headlights."

AFAIK, the Premium Package includes a genuine Auto Headlight feature, as described above -- something that usually comes standard on any modern vehicle, including most other Toyota vehicles.

I know how auto headlights work. You were still incorrect, esp given the OPs Taco and the face that they didn't know about the existing feature.

Having had cars with auto headlights, old school manual lights, and this Taco, this is thee best setup by far. Plus, it leaves no confusion or possibility of running around with just the DRLs on in the dark due to the back lighting scheme of the Taco.

Let's see. I put my key in, the lights turn on. I take my key out and wait 30sec, they turn off. Sounds pretty automatic to me. . . :hattip:

That's nothing more than an Auto Shutoff feature for the lights, circa 1980.

Genuine Auto Headlights don't stay on all day long for no good reason -- they have more intelligent sensors and programming -- and nothing I wrote about them above was "incorrect." The Tacoma has genuine Auto Headlights in the Premium Package. Period.

It is exactly what it means. Your posts are irrelevant to this thread.

If you re-read post #22, you'll see that I was not responding to the first post in the thread. Instead, I was responding to the OP later mentioning the missing "auto headlights" feature, specifically -- which is an entirely different feature than simple auto shutoff for the lights.

I just bought a 2019 v6 sr that came with back seats, but test drove a 4 cyl. that didn't have them. Dealer said that most or all of the 4 bangers it was an option to keep cost down.

I accidentally left the drivers door open all night long on my old 2nd Gen. I expected a totally dead battery the next day but to my surprise the truck had actually shut off power to the interior lights and it was good to go.
