Sirius/Factory radio install 2009 Tacoma

I have had problems with this set up. Occassionally I lose all functions, and I have to reset the device. The most common problem is the fact that my volume is maxed out and it is no where near the quality of even standard radio

 

I did it to my 2010 and it worked great. Just make sure you have the two switches set correctly and that you type in that code to make the volume a little louder.

 

Called tss before they shipped out my order of the TOY-SC1 and SCC1 combo kit. They recommended the iSimple set up for the 2010. I'll keep ya posted.

 

I changed my HU to a nice Sony unit w/ Sirius and purchased the proper interface, receiver, and shark fin antenna adapter. I get no signal from the shark fin antenna on the roof. However if I use the cheapie magnetic antenna I get a signal. From what I've read on the net there is an issue with the shark fin antenna being compatible with Sirius as the shark fin antenna is XM.

 

I have the factory roof mount antenna with the shark fin adapter for a Sirius radio and do NOT have any signal problems.

 

Some work and some don't...mine doesn't work.

Since I have the Sat Ready option I tried having the dealer check the wiring from the roof antenna to the connector behind the kick panel, they refused. So I'm just SOL. But you can bet I will never buy a Toyota again just because of this.

 

Can't believe a dealer would leave you hanging like that, well..... I guess yeah, some dealers might do that

Did you try another dealer?
I wonder if the antenna itself is defective?

Well I got the kit and tried the install.... Not working! I followed the install to a tee. It's not rocket science. Sirius is activated. All I get is SAT3 AUX. No sound no nothing. I try and scroll through channels or anything, nothing works, SAT wise anyway. AM/FM radio works fine. Hooked up my ipod to the provided AUX cable and I gotta max out volume just to get a minor sound more like a wisper. Try again tomorrow. Using the iSimple kit and Sirius SCC1 with shark fin adapter.

 

Well boys I am an official idiot. The hardware works from iSimple and so does the SCC1 and the Shark fin. Apparently I had to disconnect the antenna from OEM radio as well before I completed the install, (missed that). All works great including the sound! Thanks for the help and replies. I will be trying this install when I get home tonight, with the same parts used by BPachom. I am hoping that the wire harness that comes with the parts will be long enough to mount the tuner and interface under the rear seat in my Double Cab, so they will be completely out of sight.

How long (ft) is the harness?

I do not remember the wire harness being too long, perhaps 1 1/2' - 2'??

There may be room inside the dash (behind and next to) the factory radio for the Sirius tuner and interface.

 

Got the install finished with the three parts designated by BPachom. After hooking everything up I activated the radio and it works like a charm.

I hid the tuner behind the passenger kick wall, and have the interface hanging out on the floor of the passenger side right now. I plan to attach it to the back of the glovebox somehow, maybe double face tape will do it.

As an FYI, the biggest difficulties with this, at least for myself, were removing the radio from the dash (without breaking anything) after removing the four bolts and connecting the sirius wire harness to the radio itself. I eventually completely disconnected the radio so I could remove it to attach the wire harness. The plug was a pretty tight fit but it did connect.

 

After procrastinating for quite some time I ordered my parts last week and they arrived on my doorstep yesterday. From the time I opened the box with the Sirius goodies to locking the truck when I was done maybe an hour elapsed. People have mentioned certain parts may or may not work with certain years. I have a 2010. I purchased everything from TSSRAdio https://www.tss-radio.com. Here is what I bought:

I followed BPachom's write up and I had everything working in about 20 minutes. Here's some feedback

- taking the factory radio out takes maybe 2 minutes, use a micro flat head screwdriver to pry out the temp controls and use a 10MM nut driver for the 4 bolts.
- hardest part of the entire install is figuring out where to locate the 2 Sirius modules. I have one hidden in the center console and the other in the passenger kick plate. Over time I may move them.
- shark fin adapter is plenty long enough to give you plenty of options
- using the volume fix is a must. I definitely helps out.

So it's a year later and I still haven't done this yet but may do it soon. I don't think anyone answered my question though.

 

One question, will this install work with the factory installed bluetooth on the non-JBL head unit for 2011 Taco? I was reading some info that there were some issues with factory XM and bluetooth. This looks like the route I want to go as I already have a Sirius subscription and a Sportster radio.

 

Yes you need to take the radio out. Removing the kicker panel is only for the antenna. You still need install the wiring harness on the back of the factory radio.

 

This is a great thread with a lot of information but I have a couple questions:
1. should I see the Sat1,sat2, sat3 display when I hit AM/SAT now. The truck does not have an existing satellite antenna. I plan to buy one from Toyota and install it along with all other components
2. At what point will I see the sat display? After the tuner or interface is installed?
3. Does anyone have experience with installing a factory satellite antenna or suggestions on how to go about it? I am a bit nervous about drilling a hole in the roof of my 2011 truck!

Are you sure the truck does not already have the satellite antenna on the roof??? Toyota first introduce this standard feature/option in 2009. I would be shocked if they discontinued it.
