Yes, but it was sluggish before that. Love the response when up to speed.

Where's a good website to check on gears. I live in mountains of sw Virginia. Gear change sounds like the place to start.

Check out east coast gear supply. Ive used them on both of my tacos and theyre top notch. They can send you a built third or clamshell and all you have to do is swap em out and send yours back for a core charge refund

4.88 on my 4 banger, 4.10s on my v6 w/ stock sized tires. For the 3rd gen, id go with 4.88s

I had good results by adding a pedal commander. Though it won't add any horsepower, it does greatly increase throttle response, especially from a dead stop. But since you have 285s and live in the hills, regearing may be the most beneficial.

ECT on and using S Mode helps me out when driving in the north Georgia 'mountains'. Eliminates a lot of the excessive shifting.

I do that too, but I hate having to push a button ever time I get in the truck. Lazy right? Wish there was a way to reverse the wiring on the ECT to stay on as the norm.

Gears with larger/heavier tires and wheels. Too bad no one makes a small turbo for these yet. I'd just sell and buy a Ranger with a locker at that point though.

Op get a manual the newer tacomas are a mess with the auto tranny and smaller engine...or get a 2015 or older Tacoma with the 4.0L motor. Good luck.
