Update from my weekend trip. Wanted to head up Lindsey lakes, I went up bowman lake rd from Hwy 20 and got about 6 miles out and the road was plowed into a bank and a sign said no rubber tire vehicles. Watched a tacoma get stuck on the bank 3 times trying to get over it. We decided to leave and head further down Hwy 20 and then go through the town of Washington to get to a place to camp up Gaton rd. Snow started a few miles up and got pretty deep pretty quick. We turned around after awhile and camped a little lower in the dirt.

Anyway just figured Id share the information because I know the area is popular.

Dont know how my area would be with another half a foot of snow coming this week. I'd be down to give it a shot, or get stuck trying.

Edit: Welp according to @Dan8906 road is closed and theyre enforcing it so...

Edit again, I do have a pretty neat spot behind Union Valley Reservoir that offer some good shooting lines. Out to 300yd if we try, easy large open area for sub100yd stuff. They do like to close gates out there tho

Edit#3, Nvm, campsites are all closed which means access to the backroads i know are also closed.

Does anyone have any info on the area around Washington? There are lot of mines, diggings, and dirt roads (some "4WD") that look like it could be worth exploring, but I don't know the area well enough. Elevation is around 3500-4500.

I went through it this weekend. After you go through the town you go over a bridge, you can go straight and hug the river and you eventual get to tahoe national forest. (I camped here friday night.) OR you can turn left and go up the hill, there were only a few decent spots to camp and the snow will be worse after this next big storm. But That all the info I have on the area, Im sure there is more stuff that Im unaware of. There were several groups (pretty built rigs) doing day snow runs up that Gaton Rd that eventual turns into 21(I camped here saturday night,
39.376124, -120.765933). We had didnt want to push the limits being my truck was the only one with a winch and tow straps. We turned around at Anco Mine Rd.

I'd need to double-check on my map, but I believe they lock those suckers in late November.

Theres a few roads I won't post names publicly In that area. Nothing crazy but fire toads really. The locals hate outsiders, and in October you may get shot at. There really isnt much of there. Lots of mud.

You can also buy a 5 gallon tank, and refill your little green ones off that one, if you don't have the room for the 5 gallon tank in your truck.
