Yes quality seems to have gone down. I had a craftsman tool set that I got at age 17 and held up great for over 20 years. This new set is less than a year old with one failure so far.

Craftsmen went to shit when they stopped being US made and went to Chinese stuff. I still use my USA made Craftsmen screwdrivers all the time.

Which is actually a bit funny since Craftsmen has gone downhill, while most of the actual Chinese/Taiwan stuff has actually gone up in quality the last few years.

I think They went to China then brought it back to the US, then shut down

And Kobalt is good stuff, can’t go wrong with gearwrench sockets either

I purchased my Tacoma and extended warranty at Doxon in Auburn in 2012. All service, warranty, and extended warranty repairs have been done at Toyota of Tri-Cities. Never had a problem.

They always had some stuff made in the USA. I want to say it was Western Forge that made pliers, screwdrivers, and some bigger stuff and was US made. I think they have an Industrial line now thats supposed to be al US made.

Apex Tool Group had been making some stuff for them. Apex does stuff for Gearwrench, Cresent, K-D Tools and some others.

i dont have any gearwrench sockets but do like their ratcheting wrenches and own some of their specialty tools

From what I read with Lowes taking on the Craftsman brand but Sears still selling Craftsman branded tools there are almost 2 different types of Craftsman tools now. The stuff at Sears is the same Chinese junk they have been selling for a few years now but Lowes is having most of their Craftsman branded stuff made by Stanley. Hopefully when Sears finally goes the way of the dinosaur for real Lowes will keep it up and bring quality back to the brand.

Edit: after checking myself it looks like it is actually Stanley that owns the Craftsman brand now and is making the tools to sell through Lowes but part of the sale gave Sears the right to continue to manufacture and sell Craftsman branded tools from their existing supply chain

And Stanley is a division of Proto.

What's the craftsman stuff they're selling at ace?

    Yes indeed.

That's a good question. I believe Ace has been selling Craftsman since before Stanley took over so I would guess it is the Sears stuff

Wouldnt he technically need a tax stamp to use it? He's just licensed to be the middle man between you and the manufacturer? Or is it more confusing than that? Does FFL status direct to a business or a person? Does the business own the firearms or a person?

The ffl will have the nfa item on the proper form. Want to say it's a form 3? Or something...its a dealer to dealer tax exempt form. Once the proper form is approved that new ffl owns possession of the nfa item and can do whatever with it.

Till the form 4 from dealer to buyer is approved and transfer complete, the ffl "owns" it

So in scollins case, as a one man shop, he technically owns item "x" that is in his possession untill he receives an approval from the ATF/local law enforcement that the end user is cleared to take possession of item "x"?

How does that work for big box/chain stores? Any employee can call in a 4473 to NICS? Or is each employee that would conduct firearm transactions daily/regularly required to be vetted by the ATF? In that case, is the business the dealer with a list of known/cleared persons to conduct transfers?

Probably apples to oranges, but still falls under jurisdiction of the ATF. At my work we store blasting components onsite. Only two people in the company have access to the magazines and are licensed by the atf as Possessors. When we're performing work directly related to the use, we're considered handlers and can use them under supervision of a licensed person. When it comes to the end result only the possessor can wire and initiate the blast.

    TL;DR
Given the example in my situation, are employees of a gun shop handlers? Or are they required to be Possessors?

Correct, it is currently on a Form 3, registered to me. I’m a “sole proprietor” business, so it is in my name. In the eyes of the ATF/NFA Branch, it is mine right now and I can do whatever is allowed under the law. If it was for a Corp or LLC, it would be in the name of the business, but an owner/officer/designated employee would have full use and access to it.

But even if I was a big shop, all employees would be able to possess/use it, provided they had written authorization from the owner or company officer. Firearm shop employees are all required to pass background checks and not be “prohibited persons” with respect to firearm rights.

Gone in 50 seconds. Had he set the ebrake, it would have probably bought him enough time to show up as the tow truck driver was putting the dolly on the rear tires.
