I absolutely love that bike! I just wish they'd make a steel or titanium version with the exact same geo. I'd buy it today!

I'm thinking about going with the latest Vassago Radimus Ti and a 29+ setup, which has a geo that is very similar to the Chameleon and the added bonus of tons of bag/bottle mounts for bikepacking. Haven't finalized that choice yet, though...

The Chameleon is super underrated. My local shop has pretty much all the sizes and both colors on the wall waiting for new owners, plus they actually make good deals on Santa Cruz bikes.

On a side note, they reminded me I have had another unfinished bike project for far too long. Transition Rapture with a King headset and a pair of HED Belgium + rims and Paul hubs waiting for me to learn to wheel build. So I finally ordered the spokes and hope to have this bike built by the end of February.

A completely unnessesary and useless fixed gear commuter messenger urban cyclocross with disc brakes....

Lol, same here. Since it's winter and there's so little riding to be had, I started a new project. Building an aggressive short travel rig. Rebuilding my Devinci Marshall w/Cane Creek suspension (DBIL coil in rear, Helm in front), Hope hubs w/NOX carbon hops, Hope T3E4 brakes and floating rotors, and mid-plus tires (2.8). It'll be around 66* h.a., 445 reach, 430 c.s., 76* s.t., 120mm rear, 140 front.
    Should be fun.

I am highly interested in building a bike like this. May I ask why you went with the Rapture instead of, say, the Surly Straggler or (my current pick) the SOMA Wolverine?

I went with the Transition because
    1) I do not and have never owned a Transition
    2) Nobody else will/would do it, and I tend to make my bikes custom and difficult for me to build
    3) My “road” bike is already a Surly Cross Check, and the Straggler is a brother/cousin

No bike or Taco in this picture, but first Taco, then bike got me here. Ft Ord National Monument yesterday. 20 miles, 2700’, this old guy was pooped. Perfect weather and dirt after a lot of rain.

Don't mind the dust and the salt.... too cold out for vacuuming and detailing. Today I made a threaded shifter mount for an unused bike grip I had. Also realized that the grip pattern matches the seats pretty well too.
