Hey man, don't listen to a lot of the hate. Don't get me wrong, having a payment blows but hell, if you worked your ass off for the vehicle, so be it. Nothing like busting your ass to get what you want and if you made the financial decision that you would be safe getting the vehicle and you would be able to make the payments, then don't pay any mind to anyone else. If I had bought the truck I wanted right off the bat, I would have saved time and money. Plus I would be really close to paying it off.

I don’t think anyone is jealous, I’d imagine 99% of us could be approved for this same loan but wouldn’t take it. Now there’s a local guy who won a brz sti from a photo contest, that I’m jealous of

Working your butt off for a vehicle means paying cash. When you have it 100% paid for thats earning it.
Financing is getting something before you’ve earned it.

I am willing to bet most people if they actually busted their ass to save $40k cash would ever blow it on a car at that age. You’d latch onto it and spend it where it counts because of how hard it took to get it.

Don’t give me the BS that you got brand new truck on a loan and thats working hard. Thats the easy way out.

Working your butt off for the payments then? Not everyone believes or agrees that cash only is realistic or even the best option. It’s perfectly ok for someone to have a different opinion then you do.

Driving to work is the easy way out, should be riding your bike or walking.

Looking back, I could have easily afforded 500/mo when I was a teenager. I had nothing to buy but clothes, dates with the GF, and food.

I regret not buying my current FJ sooner (like college) before the real world of student loan debt and higher living expenses hit...she would be a lot further along than she is!

Its not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing on financing vs cash.

I just don’t want to hear that one works hard for a vehicle with payments. It takes zero hard work to walk out with a financed new car.

The whole purpose behind financing it to get now earn later.
The hard work hasn’t happened yet.

Is it possible that he has that money in a savings account and is using it to pay off the truck but also have money on standby if SHTF and needs to go somewhere or pay for something. Also what would be the difference from buying a new truck and making a payment or buying a used truck and dumping money every now and then on parts. Damn, I honestly am just trying to defend this kids case from all this ridicule but then again I can see where he kind of asked for it due to asking for peoples opinions. You get what you ask for. Now as far as loans, that sure as hell aint no easy way out because your still paying a ton of money plus extra. A loan is basically getting money that you know youll have in a year or two but want it early since life is materialistic and higher priced items usually mean better quality depending on how lucky you are.

Still not a good argument, I spent 5 k on my truck (before mods) and all it’s needed in 2 years was oil changes and a windshield (love dump trucks) so my dumping into repairs was ~ 300 $ in 2 years

He didn’t even take it out of the car lot! Won it and in 2 days sold it. Pretty unreal.

It happened for the month prior, they worked hard for last months payment.

You don’t have to hear or even read anything. It’s simple, leave the threat and stop being a cash is the only way troll. All you’re doing at this point is agrivating yourself and annoying everyone else.

Guess you don’t work hard for a place to live then do you? Or did you pay all cash for your house?

The only money you need in a SHTF scenario is drugs, alcohol and tobacco. :D

I doubt he has $40k in an emergency savings to pay the truck off in the event of an emergency.
Which would be the only way that works. SHTF can mean loss of job or physical ability to work. If that happens you need your cash not a truck.

And thats more my point. I am anti borrowing money because you end up working hard for someone else your whole life. But the real issue isn’t just debt. This kid didn’t take a loan on a $9,000 1st Gen, he took a loan on a $40k brand new truck.
People typically buy way too much in a vehicle when they finance.
$40k in this world gets you a reasonable vehicle and a home with 20% or a reasonable vehicle and a college education. Those things advance you in the world to help you build your own wealth.

Its not soley about debt vs cash... its why are people pouring incredibly large amounts of their wealth into depreciating assets? Esspecially at the very begining of life.

People always argue that paying cash for cars is unrealistic... thats the point... the cars being bought are unreasonable amount of money to piss down the drain... so why do it period?

Wait till you are at a point in your life where the $40k is a small percentage of your net worth and achievable.

I'm sorry if maybe I'm reading your post wrong, but how is anyone who is taking out a loan for their vehicle not earning it? Over 107 million people have financed their vehicles in this country, so maybe the majority of the US doesn't know how to earn a POV? If OP isn't earning his vehicle in monthly payments, then what happens when he pays it off? Next vehicle I get will likely be through a loan, cause yea I'm not dropping that amount of coin that could be spent on a house or a savings fund to outright buy a car and be left naked should shit hit the fan...it just isn't practical in this day and age unless you are some cash cow retired guy with no risk.

I don't know of your age, but as a late 30's guy I view your posts as a little judgemental and honestly ungrounded. I know many who are quite successful in life and few of them have the cash to drop on a vehicle with the exception of my old man, but he is a "special case" to say the least.

As for OP, good on you man. I dig the color and the ride looks solid...unfortunately I just moved from northern VA or else I would have loved to check it out. Everyone starts somewhere, to give some perspective...my current boss owned three cars by the time he was 24, all paid off. Don't get me wrong the guy busted his ass with OT, but many get into a vehicle they can be proud of at an early age. As long as you know what you want and have a plan to get after it, no reason to be bumming it.
