Uniball Stock replacement Lower Ball Joints!!!!

Hey guys, i recently discovered a manufacture making uniball conversion kits for tacomas/tundras/4runners! Pictures below





The kit comes with EVERYTHING you need to install/convert your factory lower ball joint to uniball. Now welding or special modifications required.

Price is $499 for everything.

The manufacture has agreed to do a group buy. Discounts may be an option if there is enough interest. I am not going to share the manufacturers name right now as this thread is only to gauge interest at this price point. If there is enough interest im sure we could work out a discount.

I think there would be a LOT of interest in this, provided the company is legit. People have been burned before (caugh Pelfreybilt, caugh). I assume there has been durability testing and research.

I think more info is needed as well, like how much of a lift/wheel travel it can accommodate, and also some more info on how this attaches to the LCA.

But I’m surprised no one has tried somethin like this before given the problems we have with stock LBJ’s. This could be huge.

 

I agree, I have asked for more information. But i wanted to go ahead and post to see if it gains any traction. If we move to an official Group Thread there will be a lot more information.

 

These look like the ones a guy was making in the 4runner forum but never completed and never sold them. Pics look identical to his.

 

possibly, he just recently got everything finalized and is working to start the first production run.

 

I don't understand the advantage. Why is this better?

OEM lower ball joints are about $220 ish for both sides and good for 100k miles or more (mine were over 200k before I replaced as pm - didn't fail).

Are these better / preferred for rock crawling or something?

 

My OEM ball joints failed around 190k miles. These uniballs should be stronger and give more range of motion. And might offer a replacement uniball for cheaper than new oems.

Uniballs are FAR stronger than balljoints. Dona quick search and you’ll see what happens when they fail, and I bet you a lot of people would be willing to may that just for the piece of mind for street driving.

But I would imagine most adopters of this would be offroaders.

 

Do long travels kits use uniballs?

I believe total chaos uses the stock style bjs. Which, if this uniball system is compatible with stock, should work for the TC lt kit, too.

 

I'm still a ball joint guy. Unis are nice but they tend to wear out faster due to the open design. Especially in winter and on dusty dirt roads.

 

I'm interested, and have been looking into doing something similar myself.
Replacement heim joints can be had for ~$12-$35 a piece.
Do you know what size heim this company is going to use?

Yes most LT kits use uniballs.

Will these work on 5 lug tacos? My LT kit doesn't use uniballs

 

They do require more maintenance, but the maintenance is SUPER easy: Clean, spray with lube.

You are correct that unis aren't for everyone. If you don’t need the extra strength that uniballs give you, there isn’t much of a reason to get them.

However, the lower ball joints on 1st gen Tacomas could arguably ALL use additional strength, given what happens when they fail.

 

True. I know it's easy but once any sand, dirt or dust gets in your pretty much causing them to wear out a little. Installed icons deltas on brothers rig hoping they last longer.

 

You can always wrap a rubber boot around it, but the issue is that now you trap dirt/sand in the joint. The covers also conceal the joints, kind of an out o siht, out of mind thig, which is probably why manufacturers don’t include rubber boots.
