DIY oil changes?

    One mod alot of guys do is run a length of fuel line from the oil filter drain down by the frame, make sure it doesnt hit any moving parts or anything hot (engine, exhaust), zip tie it off and be done with it. after you drain your pan, slide you container over under your new hose. then unscrew the filter, no mess or burnt hands trying to pull off the plug. Put a plug in the bottom of the hose so it doent get debris in it.

    i looked under my truck for the oil drail plug... it does not seems like it has any rooms for the socket wrench to turn... looks i need to add an extension?

    Not trying to toot my own horn here but I am a toyota trained tech, I work at a dealership and i cannot state enough do your toyota vehicle a favor and use a genuine toyota oil filters. doesnt matter what kinda toyota it is. toyotas have a higher oil pressure and sometimes the cheap filters like frame, the paper insides will come loose and get sucked up aganist the opening of the filter and starve your vehicle of oil. I have seen it more then a few times. Also use toyota brand air filters i have seen aftermarket air filters throw a check engine like. hope this helps

    then tell me this... this is the only thing that pisses me off..

    when tacoma comes out of the assembly line, they are put in with Toyota Oil Filter 90915 20004 made in japan,,, (best filter, no paper with synethic fibers)

    but when i got to parts and get that filter, they gave me
    $55 90915-yzzd3 Oil Filter 1 Case (QTY 10)
    90915-yzzd3,
    I looked at the inside its paper just like the mobil 1 or like purolator

    Toyota wants to be cheap about it, some toyota parts are the best, but not always!

    next time around I'm going to get Amsoil plus 90915 20004 which i can order from los angeles dealers... even Lexus does the same thing!! Scammers!!

    You can get that Japanese made filter. They are pricey. Several dealers have them available online. McGeorge Toyota either has them or can them in about a week for you. They will run you about $11 each shipped. The catch is you have to order 10 at a time. $110 :eek:

    that's not bad, if you going to going to keep your truck around for 10 oil changes.... can that dealer order the filters online???

    the orignal filter is such a nice filter, when i took it off, i know it was filled with oil, but you just tell it was made nice and so was the inside!!

    Don't know how you all feel about K&N oil filters, and I've never seen where the filter is on a 2nd gen V6, but the K&N has a 1 inch nut welded to the bottom of it. Might make it easier for future changes for ya'll.

    Wow what an odd place to put one. Guess it would be a good idea to make sure whatever filter you buy has an anti-drainback valve (flap) in it.

    i think all the pick up trucks these days are oil filer on top, other than Nissan...

    oh the only thing that i hate is when u un-screw the oil filer the old oil will draw down to the metal thing that catches, even i take the little rubber thing to drain it out, some still left over... I'm going to use a q-tip to suck it all up!

    I just use some shop rags. :)
    But Q-tips should work fine, just dont get any fibers left behind.

    that's funny, this morning i went to check on my oil drainage area.... yesterday there was oil there, now is it bone dry... i looked under it and there was no oil there... maybe some went to the rubber nub thing? too later to check tonight, will check tomorrow

    Just log on to McGeorgeToyota.com the phone number is listed there. I thing the person to ask for is Paul, once you get the parts dept. He can tell you if they are in stock or if they need to be ordered. The can do the deal over the phone.
