I took out the crappy stock sub to fit the dog platform in.

I thought upgrading the door speakers to kicker 6x9s would suffice, but the stock head unit just can't power em properly.

Soooooo sub install. I was pressed for space as I wanted it to fit under my dog platform. Also wanted a quick disconnect if I needed to use back seats, and for when stu rides in the back. I went with an 8 inch kicker comp rt and a 300x1 amp tapped into the stock head unit.

Sounds great, I may invest in a new head unit and maybe bump up to a 10". The 8" fills out the cab, but something just isnt there at the low end.

I wouldn’t bother replacing stock speakers. Just get a new head unit and a couple of 12s and you’re set:D

Yes. Yes it does. Its a fun party trick with anyone not familiar with the TW3 series. Nothing this thin hits like these things. It still doesn't rival the big name 12 and 15" subs but for as small as they are they're amazing. They'll pretty much bullet proof too.

Did you have to remove the plastic off the back of the seat and are those prebuilt JL boxes?

I DID NOT have to remove plastic on backnof seats. I DID have to cut the square metal bracket off the body of the truck. They ARE prebuilt by JL. Easy peasy, nice quality. Sub on each side and amp fits nicely between.

in my last install i had 2 10W7's in a sealed box and the depth was just nuts. those long throw subs did a lot. since the Taco has no room for anything like that i wanted the 13TW5 because i figured if i can't get the depth in the Taco i can at least get the punch that the 13TW5 is known for. and yeah the punch is amazing. it just comes at the expense of depth.
