Hey TW, I'm planning on doing more camping this year and want to get two 2 gallon rotopax containers for fuel and water. Does anyone know if these will fit on the bed rail just in front of either bed cubby without hitting the tonneau cover? I know i will need to get the rotopax truck plate mount that mounts to the bed rails but still not sure they will fit.

    Thanks :)

They make a bracket for it but they really aren't that great. I had it on the front rail and needed to wedge stuff between the cans and the bed as it bounced a lot and made a lot of noise. So mine are on my tire carrier now. And I got rid of the 2 gallon fuel and water can for the 4 gallon gas can.

Thanks for the feedback. I know they make a deluxe mount that allows you to tighten the containers more than the regular mount. Do you know which mount you had?

I wonder if they started making these mounts because people were complaining of rattling?

    From their FAQ page:

Q: What is the difference between The Pax Mount and the Deluxe Pax Mount? A: The dlx pax mount has a free spinning “T” handle that allows you to secure the cans tighter. (Recommended for Vehicles)

IMO the rail mount isn't great. might be better if i get a different rail lug. Wouldn't mind if they would have done it with 2 mount attachment points. Seems like you have any capacity for making this, you could make one way better than what they sell.

As for if it will fit under your tonneau, I'm not sure, but most undoubtedly you'll need to mount the containers oriented sideways vs up/down. Not a big deal unless you don't tighten the caps well enough.

Good to know about the truck plate from Rotopax. I’ll look into getting a universal plate or build my own. first world problems offers a plate/mount that is not pre drilled so it allows you to customize the height.
