Its not even the 3rd time tho. The pickups and 4runners had the issue since the 80's. Even the 1st gen Tundra and Sequoia do too.

 

Thats the thing though, if I recall correctly...Toyota never did the buyback or replaced frames because they wanted to right a wrong or out of goodwill, they did it because they were forced to do something via massive lawsuits. Same thing could happen with 3rd gens, but by now I would hope they've learned to get it right from the get go.

Toyotas have been notoriously rusty since well before the Tacoma, but the Tacoma made them an even bigger major player in the automotive game so they couldn't just ignore what was happening to them like they did to their pickups before

 

Its funny though, most GM trucks I see in my area that are only 10 years old are rusted out by now,and thats in mild wintered NC. No lawsuits there.

 

I don't know much about their issues but yeah, no automobile is immune to rust. I don't know if theirs got so bad that it had to be addressed in the same way, I mean didn't Dana Corp eventually even cop to the fault over the issue because they made inferior frames for Toyota? Toyota counter sued them nearly into oblivion if what I remember reading is true.

 

Idk, Im just glad my truck isnt bad. My dads truck, well, time will tell. It originated from NY. Passed frame inspection last year.

 

Maybe it’s a great big conspiracy and some one paid Dana to make faulty frame trying to ruin Toyota’s life

 

yeah same here. I've got what looks like surface rust around my rear axle where the U-bolts hold onto it, but my frame has nothing on it.

 

wouldn't surprise me lol. If GM can get a bailout from the government like the banks did then anything is possible

Cleaned up real pretty
Yearly fluid film applications is the doctors prescription for my truck. Frame was coated by Toyota so nothing there but fluid film on top of their coating.

 

Think that’s the only rusty thing on my truck. The rear differential.

 

I remember reading on here that the back plate of our rear diffs is very thin...don't let that rust get too bad

The pre-Tacoma pickups were notorious for rusty beds. Back in the 80's and 90's as soon as those trucks had 5-8 years on them, they were destined for a flat bed, at least where I was in W. Va.
