Since your military you would get a "blue" label Glock, so your price would be the same anywhere you go with your Military ID for Glocks. Somewhere around $330-$350 if I remember correctly. I try to keep things local. In Tucson I would go to Tombstone Tactical, up north to Healy's in Tempe (family owned, good guys).

Asking a group of guys about recommendations where to buy is good, what kind of handgun bad...haha. It will always come down to personal preference as the best handgun to get, is the one you shoot the best that functions properly! Always remember in the end the handgun is only there to get you to your long gun~ I carry a Glock 19....the best....no....but it has never failed with over 12k+ rounds. Whatever you buy......SHOOT< SHOOT< SHOOT! If you think you need $500 for the handgun, you really need $700! It's a useless paper weight with no ammo and a weapon for the bad guy to use against you if you aren't training and building confidence!

Good luck and get out there and PULL THAT TRIGGER!

There is a guy on here, located in Tucson selling a VP9. I don't like to talk shit, but I have never been a fan of Glocks. I tried out the Glock 34, even with it's "competition" trigger, it was still hot garbage. And to turn around and drop $150-200 on a decent trigger baffles me, seeing as you could spend a little more for a more ergonomical, better factory trigger firearm. Glock is great if you can get blue label, and they are the easiest to find accessories for etc. But in most aspects other manufactures blow them out of the water. Walther is said to have the nicest striker fired trigger, followed closely by HK's VP9.

That being said I do have that G34 for sale :p

What may get high reviews online, or is recommended by some owners, doesn’t necessarily mean it is the best fit for you.

Many firing ranges that rent firearms will allow you to exchange the rented firearm for another one in the case free of charge, basically allowing you to shoot all the firearms in the case for the same flat rate as shooting one, though one at a time. Explain what you are doing to the counter and they should be more than supportive and may even offer recommendations. I highly recommend doing this as the right firearm will feel like a natural extension of your hand. No one can tell you what that is other than you trying them personally.

Lots of people recommended Glock. Glocks do not feel natural to me and this is readily apparent when firing back to back with another firearm, so I do not own one. Spend an afternoon trying out as many as you can in the caliber you are looking for. It is well worth the extra time spent up front every time you exercise your firearm.

Personal protection / home defense, though I don’t plan to conceal and carry, just for trips, etc. something that I can also get comfortable with and take to range so I’m not just carrying a useless paper weight as someone else mentioned.

    Too few to list.
Budget? As someone recommended, it's best to go to a range that lets you try out the firearms for a flat rate. I have a glock 19 which I like but doesn't even come close to my Sig226.

I agree VP9 has a unusually good trigger for a pistol straight out of the box and is fairly priced I have a xdm with $200+ into the trigger and it’s still not as crisp as the VP

    Slight correction on this info

Only Blue Label dealers can sell Blue Label Glocks...check Glocks website for locations

Blue Label price is in the 450 range depending on model and sight selection...night sights are usually around $60-$75 more than fixed

I'm currently working on getting Blue Label designation for my store in SC but the sales rep for Glock doesn't wanna sign off...so we are currently only able to sell civilian Glocks at civilian prices shipped through a distributor

Also, OP once you figure out what you want...check with the manufacturer...many have police/military deals but they're not nearly as widespread as Glock
