I’d recommend shooting as many different handguns as you can and find one that you like. I’ve had a glock before and put many rounds through it. They are great guns but once I shot an HK I was sold. The HK just has a more natural feel to it as opposed to the Glock. Something about the grip doesn’t feel right in my hands and I never really noticed until I shot another gun.

Don’t rule out FN, the FNS series are fantastic guns too.

I have the VP9 and VP9SK (along with a HK45, a FNS-9C and a Sig P239) and love shooting them. I swapped the trigger springs in the VP9 and VP9SK and it’s made a noticeable difference in an already great trigger. Also put the SRT in the P239 and I like it!

Thats a very valid point, just figured longer barrel for accuracy and being a newb. Thanks!

No worries man. Glad to see you’re making good choices and open to consideration and research. My longer barrel Glock is definitely more accurate but after 1,000rds you’ll be putting them where you want them.

Here’s a way to think about each gun purchase. “What do I want this gun to do?” Every gun I buy has a function and because of that, I don’t have a large collection, but that’s because they just all fit a need. If I don’t have a need I don’t buy it. For the first handgun I’d personally go with one that is the most versatile. G19 checks a lot of boxes. But again, just my 2¢

I really appreciate it, looking at Glock 19 now and want to feel / shoot the H&K VP9 everyone keeps raving about.

If possible I’d find a place to rent both and put a box of ammo through each. It’s one thing to like the way they look and the way they feel, but it’s an entirely different thing to shoot one.

Couldnt agree more. I already have a shotgun (benelli nova) and my AR (boring bushmaster), just never got around to buying a handgun.

Do yourself a favor and at least look at the CZ P10. MUCH better trigger out of the box and about the same price.

The last time I bought a handgun the M&P felt very comfortable a was really close to buying it. I ended up buying the XD as I already had it set in my mind that’s what I was going to buy. Really happy with the XD but would have gone with H&K had the budget allowed.

I have both and I like them both. I carry my Glock everywhere and I shoot lights out with it, but I also literally have 10s of thousands of rounds through it. I can't say that yet with the VP9....yet! I also have a compact FN that's a very nice gun as well. You might also consider a Springfield XD-S, it's a very nice gun also.

What ever fits on you and in your hand nicely. I started with a gen 4 G19 and sold it for a G1 26 and I love the little thing.

not sure if mentioned already but look for a blue label dealer. generally they discount for military and LEO's (limited to a few times/year).

Glock 19 is fine and with lots of support you can’t go wrong there. That said I would prefer the vp9. I have a vp9 and a uspc9. I still prefer the usp. That said I’m still on a steyr kick right now.

Another one to “Czech out” would be the CZ 75 P01. Extremely accurate and reliable weapons.

Glock 19. Tested and approved by gangsta :)

*I didn’t care for glocks at first either.
