I guess the bolt is holding more weight some how or the hole isn't quite right to let the bolt smack it or something.

And my bedrails look like that from an old shovel mount. Any movement and they'll crack. Which reminds me, I need to come up with a new shovel mount...

Yeah kinda. Once you realize that to do the stuff you want to do means you have to constantly monitor the whole truck and repair it pretty much year round..you've done it.

Welcome to the brotherhood of never ending frustration, smilies, blood, sweat, tears, busted knuckles, and constant great adventures.

Sounds like the final chapter to Brents Rants book.

If there isn't something to fix, you aren't using it.

You might think that's a poor commentary on how you've built it, but it isn't, there is always something that will give

yep. By the time you get everything solid..you've found new boundaries to push the limits of...and the cycle starts over.

Not sarcastic at all. The work to do today was way more approachable for me b/c I felt like I knew what I was getting myself into and what I needed to do, based on our work at your place. Honestly, what I've learned from the whole experience is way more valuable to me than "getting it right but not knowing why or even realizing it" the first time.

The rust/corrosion happened after the tear in the sheet metal. I'm going to start with welding it, and then backing it like Zane's. I think the problem with mine is twofold:
    1. I have some high density rubber between the rack and bed to reduce metal-metal rubbing. I bet that allows for some movement/swaying of the bed rack. May need to re-evaluate.
    2. The rack itself pulls the bedsides in toward the center line of the truck just slightly. So there's a lot of tension on the rails.
Anyway, I'm not all that worried about it; was just a bummer to see since I was working on something else, hahahahaha

Yeah, I think the movement is the thing. Oh, and trying to keep up with Monte and Mike. I should just go back to my :turtleride:

If you build it to keep up, just think how solid it'll be when you solo :D

Not saying you should be happy haha that's part of it.

But it does show you're avidly using it a lot doing what you want to do. Which is good

Having a little bit of that engineer gene, I get where you’re coming from, it’s a nice platitude that if you take care of something it should take care of you. Empirical evidence (and reality) have shown me that if it “floats, flies or f**ks, you’re better of renting...” get something with two turbine engines, if basic maintenance is less than a mil a year, your doing ok...so if my 17 year old truck costs me less than 2k a year..., I should be grateful.

I have rubber both on the top and inside - everywhere the angle would otherwise rub on metal Was hoping that really tight bolts would compress it. But maybe not enough. Or maybe I also need some bolts going down through the top to hold it down as well as horizontally. :notsure:

I can't say I'm prideful of many breakages. Only a few, my rollover is one of my all time favorites. I wouldn't be so proud of a bedside crack if I had one, but I also don't feel shame about any of this. It's an expensive hobby and I've expensed a great deal on the truck. If it's getting used enough that shit breaks then those breakages were well earned. I guess what I'm saying is it is totally moot to me, I don't feel much one way or the other about it but it is an inevitably. Much like one ought not to fret over their death. I will say it is a goal of mine to grenade my Zs transmission though, cause that means I broke roughly 425hp.

I'm with ya here, either nix the rubber or loosen the tolerances.

This for me too. Actually, I don't have a huge list of things that need fixing. Work for me has been mostly upgrades to get to a point where I can hang on trips. My hope is that I don't have a bunch of "oh shit, I broke it" over time. I probably will though - it's an old truck and I'm beating it up. At least it's fun to learn how to fix it.

Yeah, I had washers already, but maybe I need bigger holes. Will have to compare the holes to the bolts I've got now.

    -------

    New topic:

How strong/thick are the tubes to the remote resi's? Is it really bad if the tube just barely contacts one of the coils on the coilover in the front? I've got the resi as far away from the shock as I can, but it's still just barely touching in one spot (second coid from the top)

No kits for this trans, it's a stopgap. I'll run it till I blow it, that is the goal after all. I have a trans waiting for me in WA from a Z32 that swaps right in that will hold to roughly 800hp that I don't think I can grenade.

Thow a piece of rubber in between the two, the harder thing will eventually eat the softer thing

Just solid mount it. Movement on that is bad. Think about how much weight is getting slung around and the leverage due to it being up higher and on small legs.

Get over your pretty paint haha

Hoses are thick. But get that shit away from your coils
