Flimsy bumpers on 2nd Gens.

A friend of mine has a 2010 TRD Sport 4door 4wd. Silver in color. It's a beautiful truck. But when i washed it for her the other day, I noticed how flimsy the rear bumper was. I swear that if i pulled up on it real hard, that i could have bend it up and out. That's just crazy!!! What happend to the build quality that the 1st Gens had? IMO the 1st Gen Tacoma's are just more reliable and better built.

Another friend of mine has a 2004 Nissan Frontier and his timing belt broke. As I was helping him remove the crank pully, I noticed that the SHOC V6 in that truck is just a cheap looking engine, compared to the 3.4 V6 in my truck. It's also an interferance engine! How Nissan could have got caught with their pants down on that one is beyond me. Since it broke while it was ideling, the tech at the local Nissan shop said the he has about a 60/40 chance of coming out of this with no major engine damage. He's worried sick. He said " I fuggen KNEW i should have bought a Toyota!!"

1st Gen Tacoma's rule!!! (i hope i don't have to eat them words! LOL)

 

Toyota bumpers have always been cheap IMO. My '96 rear bumper was paper thin swiss cheese by the time the frame rusted. The 1st gens are well worth the money compared to the 2nd gens.
From what I have noticed, the 3.4l engine is about the best designed engine of that time. It is simple to work on, no matter what you are doing.

But concerned about your poor choice in NCAA teams.

 

My Chrome bumper has been pretty solid. The sport bumpers are fucking laughable.

I was hit by an uninsured pole at 5mph and it did $7,500 damage to my 2008 TRD Sport. It collapse the pumper and pushed the bed into the cab!

 

*cough; ahem* Ah, 1st Gens...superior in all regards.

 

$7500 in damage for that at 5mph? Sounds like there's more to this story than lets on. It's weak... but not THAT weak...

Also there's a fix for weak bumpers... AllPro/CBI/ARB/ect...

 

I have a 1st gen and backed into a tree this past winter. My bumper crumpled alot more than I thought it would or should. It bent back into the bedside and put a nice dent/hole in it. I'm still kicking myself for buying a stock replacement bumper instead of an aftermarket one

 

Wow! Was this uninsured polish person driving a 1955 Plymouth? Now there was a stout bumper.

 

I've had two separate cars/truck run into my bumpers and very little to no damage done to my vehicle while tons of damage done to theirs...

one was even another Tacoma
