There is no bigger fan of Avery than myself(check my older Instagram posts if you don't believe me. I basically live there when I'm in Colorado), but theirs is a bit too thick for me. Don't get me wrong, Tweak is life changing ... but I like my coconut porter a bit lighter. I make mine about 6%ABV, and somehow this brew has made me a local legend ... Haha.

I'm more of an IPA guy, but my porter brings all the bois to the yard for some reason.

Yeah me too, if you haven’t tried Weldwerks Juicy Bits IPA yet you are missing out. My favorite IPA right now besides New Image’s Also Paul and their East Coast Transplant.

Haven't had it yet, but I'll be out next fall ... and Ft. Collins is a stop I typically make (Funkwerks). That looks stupid close, so consider it on my radar.

It’s in Greeley which is about 30-40 minutes from Fort Collins. You won’t be disappointed.

And if you find your way down to New Image hit me up!

    So true.

Fat Tire was my jam back in the early naughties, but honestly I had a few dumpers when I visited there. Their "Lips of Faith" series is pretty legit, though.

If you're sampling, Maui Brewing Coconut Porter is pretty stellar.

This is what I set out to conquer, and I did ... but I really can't say we get it fresh here. So, my fresh stuff beats the shit out of their 3 month old stuff. Whatever that means.

    That is excellent!

I do think there is a difference considering handling, esp large temperature changes. Hanging out in a nearly constant temp in my keg fridge, I don't notice a difference over the 3mo or so that it takes me to go through 50l other than the stuff toward the very end is a bit flat / much less head retention. No real effect on flavor.

Yep, all of that stuff is a killer. This is why we should all have a great local brewery, because the sellouts that mass distribute are really not represented as well as they could be. Well, unless they put another location on the map to help with that. I generally buy Stone now that they have a plant in Virginia, the quality is always there.

It was funny, I helped with the Yuengling (Sheryl) wedding, got a $200 tip ... and half of that went to Stone, Lagunitas and Founders for a house party we threw in mid December. Nice people, but I'm not really fond of their beer unless it is free.

    Too right! I miss Yuengling.

I've picked up my Diamond Knot kegs at the brewery for the last 13yrs. I slightly miss the days of slinging them along in the sidecar.

It's mostly about the memories of the good times while drinking the Lager.

Haha, yeah ... my favorite was a time when I was still in High School. My buddy and his Dad worked a cleaning business, usually night shift at bars and such. There was this popular country line dancing place, and I went with them one night to help out. The Dad told me I could have all the coke I wanted, so I just kept filling up with Yueng Black and Tan because it looked the same in a cup.

There was a lot of snow on the ground, and they told me it took 10 solid minutes for me to climb over a giant pile of plowed snow/ice in my parking lot instead of just walking around it after they took me home.

Smart man! It took me a while to shift my thinking when I found out what the other black and tan pour was.

For our wedding back there, the choices were the less expensive domestics, or the better imports like the Molson that we were happy enough with. Then, they told us that Yeungling was on the domestic list. Hahahaha! Easy choice.

We usually would end up with sixers in some field bullshitting and looking at the stars on most any nice night. That, or the drive in that was just up the alley from home.

Fuck, I miss that. Suburbia blows.

I turned 21 in 1999, and Molson was in everybodies fridge back then (usually Ice). I remember people crossing the border to bring back the "uber strong" XXX. Hahaha, that is funny to think about now.

Yueng was around but not as crazy popular as it is now, and if you really wanted to be a rebel you could order Heineken or something. Grolsch with the swing tops and Anchor Steam was ultra snob before craft beer really took off.

I'm about 6yrs ahead of you. The only ice beer was MGD, which wasn't bad. By the time that the other ice beers came along, we were deep into the craft explosion. I remember it like it was yesterday. A whole bunch of us swillers trying and failing to empty one bottle of Pete's Wicked Ale. That struggle didn't last long. Lager was always the standard though.

I was late getting back to the PBR fad, but it did help for finding Rainier and Olympia as the perfect camping beers. It all about the hydration there! Cheap and cheerful.

BTW, I never liked Heiny, except for the commercials. Grolsh was cool just for the bottle.
