I had mine all set up but it was hitting my RAT skid. I ended up going with an old bottle that I found laying around. fit in between the front of the truck and the airbox.

    Really dig this set up

    I have mods
This one doesn't come near the skid. The lowest point, the pump itself, is even with the bottom of my radiator and I believe I have the larger one. It's a Denso replacement and hangs down pretty far.

Yeah depending on your altitude and temp out side. The propane and butane dont burn good in cold temps and high altitudes. Thats why they made white gas stoves.

I’m told butane doesn’t burn well in the cold, but I guarantee propane burns just fine in the cold. Well the coldest I have tried is -30 F. and it burned just fine. Colder than that I can’t say for sure.

Propane boils from a liquid to a vapor at -40° F, anything close to that and it cannot create enough vapor pressure. A cook stove may be able to be lit, but large btu using equipment requires a liquid vaporizer.

Im referencing why they made white gas stoves. If your going to climb a mountain a pint bottle of white gas is smarter and burns at a better ratio. As far as propane I think it looses its effectiveness around 28degs. The bottle and fittings can freeze up as well, causing you to go hungry.

The propane does work great for truck camping for sure. Since I travel solo or plus 1 I just use backpacking stoves, and pre pair meals at home no mess and less to pack.

How did you seal the pump the the pipe? Just reused the rubber grommet and drilled a hole in the pipe? I’ve done mine the way you originally did, with a T... the way Blackdawg shows in his write up. I can’t fit my skid back on now because the pump hangs too low.

Yeah, reused the grommet that was already on the pump. 3/4" hole is perfect, actually a little tighter than the original seal I think.

So I rebooted my cv tonight with the SDHQ boots. They only came with the large clamps, anyone else use them ? Did they just forget to send the small ones? If not what did you use?

I’m really not a fan of the large clamps either, they are like half the width of the OEM ones. And it would have been nice for the kit to come with the grease. I used the same grease in both inner and outter boots, but I know the oem kit has different greases for both.

I don't disagree that white gas is a great fuel, it is. Just saying propane will work in pretty cold temps. I use my backyard grill all winter, and it always works. Temps are regularly below zero, and the coldest I rememger using it was -30 F and it worked just fine. Stuff even cooks in about the same amount of time.

Huh they sent me three sets of boots without them!

Edit: They state for the Tacoma ones that they only include outer clamps.

I don’t know why they would say that. OEM has a clamp on the small part.

Edit: toyota sells them separate for $7 and $10 for the small and large clamp, respectively. But fuck thats way to expensive for my blood lol

...Our campfire that night was one of our best of the trip. With two bundles of wood, we kept it burning hot - the heat helping to cut the chill of what was clearly going to be a clear, cold night. As we had the night before, talk was of our favorite parts of the trip and places to which we wanted to return - either to re-explore or see in more depth - the list long enough for several more trips!
