Had to do that on dual tanks on my 92 f150 because someone put sugar in them way back when.

Funnily enough, we found a cigarette butt in one of them.

not sure about 1st gen's but most modern vehicles have check valves in the filler hose to prevent siphoning.

I totally agree with running it. Top of the tank and get on the highway for a drive. Get to 3/4 or half tank and fill back up. Or suck out 5-10 gallons and then fill up.

 

I thought the check valves were just on the air exhaust to charcoal canister?

 

And Harbor Freight has a battery operated one for $9.99. Double D's.

Same thing happened to my first run in the 40, after I dropped a can of Seafoam. I've used Seafoam since, no backfire. Deduction: It's the gas, and the Seafoam is working as it should.

I've laughed at that commercial every time it has come on, and listened closely for the mention of "American truck brands". But alas, never mentioned, and now the ad won't be seen anymore.

Other way is to use the electric fuel pump. Disconnect the fuel line from the injector fuel rail, point the line into a container and turn the key to on. Watch for sparks, video as necessary.

I like things with Double Ds.

 

Prior vehicles, Jeep and Mustang both had a floating ball or butterfly type valve at the tank/filler hose joint. Is in theory there to prevent overfilling, stop spillage in rollover situations and as a bonus prevents fuel theft by siphon.

So, had my 40k complementary service done yesterday. Notice afterwards that it is riding rough, turn info center to tpms and all my tires read @ 60/61psi. Dagum Tech aired up all my tires to max pressure during rotation. Ummm hello, the truck only calls for 30 psi per the manufacturer.
