So factory LSD should have pretension at 200 ft-lb

According to that site Factory LSD (05-08 Tacoma's) should have pretension of 200 ft-lb. Damn I am missing 50 ft-lb then I am going to check again to make sure but I could swear I have only 150 ft-lb oh well still good.

I'm still trying to figure out if mine came with the LSD, since I bought it used I don't know for sure.

 

Did a quick brake stand on some asphalt today, left 2 very small marks (tires are expensive!), I have an 08 with a LSD diff.

 

'09 + Tacomas have AUTO LSD... no special oil since they are normal, 'open' differentials... until there is slippage on one tire (TRAC) or if you press the VSC OFF switch briefly to turn 'TRAC OFF' and then it becomes 'AUTO LSD'... or when you are in 4WD HI, then the AUTO LSD is automatically active on all 4 wheels (but still called 'TRAC' by Toyota). The Yellow Wire Mod will give you the AUTO LSD (TRAC) in 4WD LOW (if you don't have the Off Road TRD with A-TRAC).

Sensors detect when one tire spins out and forces torque to the opposite tire on each drive axle. Done with the brakes instead of clutches inside the differential... easy, cheaper to replace, and it works!

 

Yes, we can see that... but others open and read the thread which does not state the year in the title. Also, the OP may get a new Tacoma someday and they don't have the old style LSD with clutches anymore.

I like my trucks to be easy to fix and modified with out spending arm and a leg at dealership.

 

It is not stated in the title, so until we open the thread and begin to read it, we don't know what year. Anyway, that doesn't matter... I clearly said I was talking about the '09 and new Tacoma LSD so that YOU and anyone else who wasn't familiar would know how they achieve LSD... no problem.

I like my trucks to be trouble-free as well... that is why I get Toyota and get new ones every 4-5 years, have them serviced on schedule (or sooner for oil changes). I put over 136,000 miles on my 2001 Tacoma in less than 5 years without any mechanical or other problems. My 2005 had over 102,000 miles when I traded it for my 2010... a couple of problems, but none bad enough I would try another brand.

So, in leayman terms.... Is that the amount of force that is utilized to keep the clutch paks/wheels in traction (so to speak)?

 

I think you can say that way but there is probably more to it. I got 150 ft-lb on a wheel with other having 0 ft-lb traction (both in the air)
So if you end up with one of the wheels in the air the other should be getting 200 ft-lb. Not bad for clutch pack limited slip.
