They manage to drive in NYC, then I'll believe their skills are superior xD

Better yet, Rome. Went 13 years ago w/my family, it was insane there

I do. 95% of my driving is done on city streets and any given week I commute between Whittier, Cypress, Cerritos, Inglewood, Santa Monica, DTLA, Compton, Brea, Anaheim etc... if i'm going from DTLA to whittier, it's always during traffic which these days it seems to be all freaking day.

Why do I do this? I enjoy driving a manual and in 2019 we have power steering and easy clutch pedals (even though we've had this for a long time on cars now). So it's almost subconscious when driving, it's not something I think about.

Some of my friends talk about how awesome a manual car is, but never commit to it because then it would take away from allowing them to be lazy.. I honestly believe driving auto makes people less attentive.. hence my signature

I drive mine in the city. I tend to avoid the heavy stop-and-go traffic around LA though, but it is sometimes hard to avoid. When I do get stuck in traffic, I try create space ahead of me so I can stay in first (or second) gear as much as possible. Most of the time, I pull off the highway and into a bar to have a beer while traffic calms down.

Work 3 miles from home. 5 min drive if I get stuck at some lights. Pretty spoiled really.

The reason why I never bothered to learn to drive one. I'm sure I would love a manual, I play manual all the time in arcades. But in stop and go traffic during every commute, even just to the 7-11 down the street, it would drive me crazy.

I drive manual in the city, I just leave early enough in the morning to try and beat the traffic into the city.
I have always had a manual car/truck so it has never been an option to get an auto, I guess I just prefer rolling my own gears. Big traffic jams or accidents can suck.

People act like shifting is a big chore, lol. It's not. It's second nature and requires no thinking at all once you get used to it, which happens very quickly. Becomes a natural reaction, like riding a bike.

I can’t take them like a sports car, but I have held pretty good speed on some in my sport truck. There is a wicked corner as you get off the highway in the town I live in, I only follow the posted speed limit when some one is in front of me. One of my concerns about lifting or messing with the suspension on this truck, is I can’t drive it as aggressive.

I live near Seattle now. No way I'm buying a manual here. I can barely stand driving in traffic as-is. Luckily (I guess) the choice was taken from me because I won't buy a shortbed truck.

Absolutely not. When I reach the city limits I park my taco on the shoulder and walk the rest of the way.

Learned to drive with a MT, and first 3 cars I owned had them.

At first I'd be sweating bullets when I'd be stopped at a light on a steep incline and a car would be right on my ass. You get use it it thou

Automatics created the stop and go traffic. Imagine if we all had manuals chugging along in first gear like big trucks. I have always had a manual. Hollywood Toyota salesman didn’t know how to drive it so I had to pull it out of the lot lol.

The only city that was kind of a headache was one time when I got stuck going through seventeen red lights - all uphill, in San Francisco. You hit one red light, you might as well park it and wait. One time had eleven green lights in a row. Now I just go around the city.

    I got a friend who works for NJ Transit, think he's getting a Caddy XT5 or whatever, exactly who you just described though (he says his toy car will be a manual sports car with a cpo, when his apartment only houses one vehicle. Another whose saving up for stuff, but I'm telling him to do the old "Buy a $1000 civic to learn and then sell it for the same amount" trick. People these days are hopeless -_-;

My STi was a pain in bumper to bumper traffic and if I had to do it daily, I'd have probably bought an easier daily driver. I used to think I'd have two different size calves if I drove it in the city regularly.

The Tacoma isn't bad in stop and go traffic as the clutch is forgiving.

Agree. In SO CAL, you either become a master of the freeway system, - -or get chewed up and spit out by it.

I drive in dahntahn Picksburgh frequently. Driving a manual lets me focus on actually driving. I like being in control.

Also the traffic doesn't really bother me. It's gets annoyingly stop and go through the tunnels into the city when there's big events but I still don't regret getting the manual
