The UR series engines are very wide, they barely squeeze into a Land Cruiser 80 frame, might be possible on the Taco but I suspect you'd have to section the frame to give it birthing hips haha

 

Pretty sure that's too big. the 5.7 is WIDE as hell.

And what? The most customizable model? As in 1st gen vs 2nd and 3rd?

Way more aftermarket support for 2nd/3rd gens. Not for motor swaps per say but overall.

already been done a lot. I've thought of it. 2jz just doesn't have as nice a torque curve as the 5vzfe

 

CANBUS is a pain in the ass on a second gen compared to standard OBDII for motor swaps

 

Idk about the 7.3. Are you talking about the old IDI or the heui models? Turbo or not? If you’re talking about the newer ones with the heui injectors, or either actually, a turbo relocation maybe called for. Which I guess you mean the heui model because you mentioned powerstroke. I guess the turbo could stick up through the hood, a little but damn that’s a big engine. The older idi 7.3l’s with the center mounted injection pump, probably wouldn’t be very hard to fit, it’s basically a big block v8. No electronics on the idi except the starter, alternator, and fuel shut off solenoid.

 

Best option would be the new Cummins R2.8 swap engine

Yes, though I'm more looking for a more specific year. My goal is to build an old model into something I can go across the country in off-road (kind of like Alaska off-road warriors, if you have seen it) the bumpers and bed I will probably make myself but when it comes other mods like suspension lifts I will have to buy, obviously. if it hasn't already made itself apparent I don't know much about moding trucks so I don't really know the possibilities. The 1997 that I was thinking about rebuilding is my avatar.

 

Absolutely, positively the best way to repower!! It’s all about lb. ft. of Torque to get the job done. Fuel mileage would be awesome with low rpm power to pull whatever you need to pull or climb any mountain you want !!

 

WAY more suspension options for 2nd gens. Like a LOT.

Pretty much anything worth anything is a custom setup for 1st gens. And is limited as it is unless you do SUA or links which idk if thats where you'll go or not.

 

Check JDM engines and look for any Toyota diesel that would bolt in. Toyota has always made an excellent diesel !!!

 

Thats a 10k engine that doesn't produce much power and is electronically controlled so it doesn't even have the benefit of being simple.

I do because tuning is my hobby. But for a lot of folks building rock solid off-road rigs, especially diesel. Less is more. The fully mechanical setup of a 4BT is more attractive. The weight maybe not so much though. Not as big of a deal if a sensor goes or a solenoid sticks on a road going car, you probably aren't far from service. A rig you trust to take you to the middle of nowhere is a bit different. But yeah for those of us that are comfortable tinkering you're right there is less risk. Still an over priced underpowered little engine though. It would be a better choice at about 4-5k for the entire package minus fuel cell
