1st gen here but I had issues with my O2 sensor readings after installing my kit and my engine would surge and fall. The larger diameter down pipe was affecting the readings because the sensor wasnt getting hot enough exhaust gasses. I moved the sensor up closer to my turbo outlet and possitioned it for better exhaust flow but still had an issue at idle. I wrapped the downpipe and for the most part that helped keep things hot enough for a proper reading. Otherwise, I would keep it unwrapped :notsure:.

As far as benefits, I can think of a few:
-There is theoretically a performance advantage to wrapping everything between the turbo and engine. Retaining the heat in your exhaust allows the exhaust pressure to stay higher. As it cools, the pressure goes down and the energy to spool the turbo will go down to. I doubt its a huge deal though...
-Wraping the headers and down pipe will keep engine bay temps lower.
-If youre exhaust/manifold is close to electric runs, brake lines, or AC lines, I'd wrap it (and I'd get some reflective insulation to protect the other components).
-Wrapping it also protects from STD's

Downfalls are your manifold and exhaust will get hotter, faster, which overtime can lead to cracking. Also, exhuast gasses will be hotter and you will wear out your cat converter much quicker (if you still have one :D).

As far a wheeling and overheating, I think a vent would be very beneficial but it will also get rain and dirt into your engine bay. A poor mans solution is spacers on your hood latches to raise the hood a bit and allow for better ventilation.

Good to know about the O2 issue. Hopefully I don't encounter one but it'll be something to keep in the back of my mind should I encounter issues.

Were you able to keep abs and cruise control?

I need a new battery and to do a compression test prior to starting this project. Hopefully by next week I'll be making progress! Can't wait!

Still have cruise control. Never had Antilock brakes. Why would I lose them?

The module sits on the passenger fender. I wasn't sure if there is enough room and for the brake lines to be out of the way enough to keep from cooking them.

Def wrap your down pipe if your brake lines are where mine are. They are close. Get some insulation between them and the down pipe. The cruise control wasn't an issue for me, not in the way.

I remember you and I talking about this a year or so ago. I relocated my o2 sensor and wrapped the downpipe helped tremendously. Finally I had to set my 550 injector response in the F/IC to something absurb like 1200ms, but it idle very smooth and stable at 14.7. Just a small issue under very light load around 2,000 it surges a little but nothing much.
