Buying new Duratracs. Only E rated available.

I have the C rated ones, but my truck came with E rated tires so I'd double check what yours came with (I'm 2nd Gen). I also had some bad vibration and balance issues at first. I'm going Michelin LTX A/T 2 for my next set. See if I can get some better life and MPG out of them. Duratracs look bad ass and do great things off road, but nothing to write home about.

 

You are wrong. They are 6lbs heavier each. Which equals 24lbs total.

 

I have stock size Duratracs that are standard load on my OR. Bought them at Canadian Tire too. FWIW, I did notice a slight drop in mpg, but nothing too bad.

 

I’m running 285/70/17 Duratrac D load.

It’s a hard tire and I feel/notice all the frost cracks on Saskatchewan roads.

When I bought them I immediately noticed the weight and volume. It’s not an ideal highway tire but it’s good in snow. I do run a lot of highway with it, and I still like them.

Nice truck bro. A lot of people that bought Tacoma's, didn't want a truck. Which is why I read a lot of complaints about their "truck" not driving like a sports car lol. I love my TRUCK.

 

I get a kick out of you guys who think that since it's a truck, we have no right to be concerned with MPG or ride quality. only an idiot would purchase a brand new truck and willingly choose a harsher, rougher riding tire with worse mpg, and stress on the drivetrain when there is a better option.

Only an idiot would buy a truck for MPG, when there are many better options. Some people buy trucks to do truck stuff, like go 4 wheeling, fishing, camping, haul heavy shit.

 

Depends on the brand I guess . I've seen some that are 20lbs more.

And even still 6lbs unsprung is a lot of weight.
That 24lbs total is line having 200lbs in the bed for mpg.

There was a thread on here linking to a page that explained it all. Was pretty intense how much that little bit of weight can impact.


Even saw a video on YouTube where they were dyno a race truck . On 37s it made almost 120 wheel HP more than on 40s.

 

A happy medium are the classic Cooper ST. I had them in 255’s D load. Drove very nice, weight was reasonable and performed acceptably off road. But off road it was obvious they were not a mud tire and on road the were not a car tire.

I really like the way my Falkens drive on the street but kinda regret not just going back to the same Coopers I mentioned above for the extra diameter/height.

 

And plenty that buy a truck for those things aren't against better mpg?
Your point makes it sound like one shouldn't want better ride or performance just because they need a truck to do other stuff.

Given many full sizes are getting the same if not better mpg and ride comfort as a mid size it's really not to much to ask. Those come with their own problems being domestic unreliable shit. But still

Buying and expecting the same is stupid yes, but trying to get better when still getting a truck if it's something you need isn't too much to ask.

Think of it this way the more you save on fuel the more money you have to do more camping etc.
And when it comes to long distance camping better fuel efficiency is something that can become a big concern if fuel stops are limited and you need long range.

Just because it's a truck doesn't mean it needs to ride like a truck from the 70s or 80s when it's 2019.

And when you don't require the e rated and you know you'll get shitty ride and worse fuel than the latter.

 

Pass on the Duracraps. Look at the Falken WildPeak.

 

I have 265/75/r16 range E wildpeaks on mine and its fine, gas milage loss is minimal and the ride is no worse than it was on my stock suspension with the stock dunlops IMO

I do have 6112s and 5160s now though

Never said I expect it to drive like a car. But if I have two options, and one of them is worse on MPG Etc then why the hell would I pick that option? Because it's a truck? If I want the better / smarter option,I might as well drive a Prius? . I bet you noodle for catfish don't you?

Buying a truck and expecting a ride and mpg of a car is stupid, but buying a tire you don't need that will affect mpg and ride when there's an option that won't is just as stupid...

 

You shouldn't laugh the Ridgeline has better payload and towing than your truck.

It does truck things better than a Tacoma to be honest.

I loved my Duratrac 10ply. They do good in snow. (NOT as good as snow tires) but good. When my tires poop out...I will be getting some Duratrac 10ply.
